The thread to talk about our fielding

Recommended Posts

Surprised even for a jamodi this thread didn't get made yet. The kind of display we put in in thr last T20 match and the odi game especially was barely amateur level. It is worryingly part of a larger trend over the past few years though where our ground fielding and catching standards in general has fallen off a cliff when it was quite good 5 or 6 years ago. At that time I felt out slip catching was worse than it could have been esp Kohli but those 2 aspects were right up there with the best probably as a first order effect of the team's focus on improving fitness standards under Kohli and having many good natural athletes like Umesh, Jadeja, Pandey, Dhawan and Kohli who worked into it and guys like Pandya coming into the team. The young gen is no great shakes at all in this regard, far from actually when you see how awful Shaw, Arshdeep, Prasidh etc are in th field which is of some concern.

In an important knockout match you wouldn't bet against the fielding letting us down even more than it does in relatively pressure free bilaterals when the pressure is on and you need to take every chance. I can't imagine Chahal standing under a skier with the game delicately poised when we are defending a total and not shelling it like Arshdeep did in that Pakistan game in Asia Cup

Thanx for creating this thread.  In last 1 year or so, our fielding in all 3 formats has been atrocious.    Last ODI vs SA, we dropped 4 catches.  All by youngsters. This is the most disturbing part.   Which cost us 50+ runs and the match.   Let's use this thread to keep track of our dropped catches going forward. And if possible share it with BCCI once we exit from WT20. :cantstop:

Kl isn't a good fielder mainly bcoz he was a wk.

Rohit has lost his agility

Kohli - great fielder

Surya - ok fielder

Pandya - great fielder

Dk - lol,

Axar - ok at best

Bhuvi - below average

Chahal - worst

Arshdeep - bad

Siraj - below average

Rohit is a good slip catcher.

Kl is a good fielder actually by our present standards.

Bumrah is another one I missed out, pretty decent in the outfield.

Rahane was also a decent fielder in the inner ring.

We are worst fielding side the world by some margin.  Lack of athleticism is appalling.

Even Bangla boys might not be as bad as us.

Sadly that's 100% true. We weren't nearly that bad until a few years ago. In fact the Raina-Jadeja generation (& Yuvi-Kaif before that) was mostly good at fielding.

The scary part is that most of the youngsters now are poor fielders. Has too much fame & money too early gone to their heads? I don't know but something needs to done ASAP, otherwise we will always underachieve.

Rohit is one the most safest catcher

kohli runs like cheetah , can take tough catches but can drop dollies

pandya - fielding has gone down post injury

KL will qualify as average/decent, he is more at Gautam Gambhir's level.
DK struggles at the outfield, but inside circle he is still average/decent (ofcourse his age will go against him).
Our bowlers expect for Umesh and to an extent Bishnoi are all below average and below.
Pant is also a good keeper.

Pakistan better fielding unit than Australia. That's what I could conclude from it. These stats cannot be taken seriously.

We basically got kicked out of the Asia Cup cause of our fielding. Don't need any stats to tell us how poor our fielding has been in the past few years.
