Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore him. One of the more colorful personalities of modern day cricket and a player with big match temperament. Yes, I know people will list all the times he failed and so did everyone else in the team on many occasions but he has also given memorable performances.

 

Today the ice cool temperament in what was arguably the most difficult time in the match, has won me over. I have backed him and criticized him many times but from now on I am a pure die hard fan.

 

I think he should retire from LOIs after this. T20s at least for sure. However he should play every match in this tournament if fit. 
 

His fielding is horrendous though but he gives it a 100% and for most parts a safe catcher. His replacement would be Chahal who would take straight catches on the bounce and point at the sun. Not an upgrade.

 

Fight should be between Axar and Chahal. I prefer Chahal who can be a wicket taker on his day. Axar for now doesn’t fit in. If this was UAE, I would consider Axar.

 

Going back to Ashwin, what a legend.

That well left is trending big time lol I changed my profile image. He is past sell by date. But he is not the worst choice out there. Hope Rohit hides him better on the field. He did create a couple of chances. Spyder cam intervened once. Caught and bowled shelled once.

I can't see enough of the wide ball..I would sound like an idiot but that was really smart and very good awareness by Ashwin. DK premeditatedly moved to make room and Nawaz bowled on pads. Ashwin knew that,he just went back into crease knowing Nawaz is going to ball there only and moved away. Considering it was last ball anyone would have hit that..Even Kohli talked about it praised it when he was giving iv to Sapru that if he was in his place he would have hit that as it was last ball.

he didn;t move away just let the ball go down the leg side.

Also with him non strikers stay in their crease. Worth it just for that

He had this crossed stance slightly outside the leg stump.  When the ball started he was slightly outside the leg stump. Moment it delivered he went back to middle stump hahah. That was freaking genius stuff.

Dope finish that, most would have done what DK did and that is always risky when cramped for room. Also next ball effortless loft for 4 

 

We needed 1 off the last ball against Afghans in 2018 Asia Cup and Jaddu gave an easy catch to deep mid wicket, these last ball finishes are just too tense. 

 

That was the highest pressure ball of the match and Ash delivered effortlessly. Think I notice a big change in Ash since 2020-21 BG, he is enjoying cricket a lot more and also has developed some troll-like characteristics, now almost like the villain (controversy, talking points etc.) of the cricket world, which  I find very entertaining....like those WWE heels. That well left for wide was so cheeky, amazing....almost as if he was deliberately creating meme content for his YT channel!!!

I don't think he did it intentionally to 'create' a wide. Would have been wide anyway.

This movie is a hilarious movie. These kind of stuff happens in gully cricket. Ashwin despite being an international start takes part in much lower leagues. He even plays street cricket.

We never know. Because if he had stood in the original position ball would have brushed his leg. If you watch carefully he never brought his bat down at all. He never planned to play a shot if the ball landed in certain area.

Ballsy move since it was SLA operating, must have read from the hand to know that it would go with the arm, imagine if it hadn't held its line and flicked his pad!!!!

As a spinner he probably guessed what he would bowl. Also that is what he did against DK

the point is in that situation batsman is not looking to play late. They are trying to take a swipe or play on length. To not chase after the ball and have the presence  of mind was admirable. Next ball to just place  it calmly means he had a plan.

 

He is turning out to be a good utility cricketer overall. After his retirement I think he will play IPL for a few years as a utility player even when his bowling deteriorates. With some fitness his fielding is serviceable.

Not a bad idea if we are to meet Pak in the final, anyway I may be biased, always wanted us to reverse our batting order (partially of course) if situation demanded. 

 

Ashwin's white ball batting has improved a lot!!!!!

If you tell him what ball you will bowl he will be ready. But with Rahul you can tell him "I am going to swing the ball back into you" he will still miss it.
