none as far as I can tell - jasiwal is perhaps the closest.

I still have hopes sarfaraz can be a very good player, albeit not a great player.

Sometimes an average domestic player may be much better at the internationals and vice versa.  India should play all these guys against Australia in the tour game when they visit here.

The way he carries himself, he doesn't look like working on his game. He cares more about his hairstyle.

Gill freely crosses the border between laxy elegance and just plain laziness. Appears too casual, with slow reflexes. With a coach like Rathour, his game isn't going to see any improvement anytime soon.

In tests

sarfaraz

jaiswal

dhull

shaikh rasheed ( pretty good technique)

lois

tilak verma ( leftie with spin bowling option)

Bana the wicket keeper of u19. No idea why he wasn’t picked in ipl. Effortless six hitter

i m a bit flummoxed about devdatt paddikal. What happened to him?

KeLa always remind me the family guy episode " peanut butter jelly time". just imaging, KL is doing it in Powerplay overs instead of Brian and we all Indian cricket fans are watching him like Peter. Joke on us.

he is a typical GenZer in some ways. more conscious about his looks, style, image, etc. than others

Such players emerge once every 20 years,so 70,80 was gavaskar; 90,00 Sachin; 10,20(??) virat . So next guy should be in 2030.

it's not a bad estimate actually if we look at spacing between international debuts of best indian batters of their generation.

merchant - 1933; hazare - 1946; gavaskar (longest gap) - 1971; Tendu - 1989; kohli - 2008

I think the next great indian batter could be a few years away.

If you are counting Merchant and Hazare then Dravid was in 1996 also..

From 70 onwards, this trend works:

Gavaskar (1971)

Tendulkar (1989)(18 yr gap)

Kohli(2008)(19 yr gap)

In 2027, next great batsman will debut for India. So, 4 years of wait more :phehe:

although merchant and hazare were roughly same age, they debuted in periods with lots of change in both cricketing and non-cricketing sense (e.g., pre and post WW2). hence, I only included the best batters of their generation who were also simultaneously great batters (or close enough).

all of drabid's career has overlapped with tendu, and that's why he is not there - you can look up when they debuted in internationals and when they exited. drabid is just a subset of tendu. this is not true for hazare-merchant.

I agree with the rest of your math. fingers crossed for 2027 :D

India has a lot of potential players.  But nobody has that hunger. I thought KL Rahul was going to be the one after he scored like 8 fifties in a row in Tests. It looked like he just had a conversion issue. But over a period it was unravelled that he has technical issue as well. And in due course his mental strength issues were also exposed. Gill was the next anointed. Pretty much everyone rated him very hight right from under-19. He carried his form into domestic. Now he is regressing. He should play domestic cricket when he gets a chance. Not a single cricketer has the eagerness to represent the state once they reach a stage.  Only recently i see Pujara, Rahane playing first class after they were dropped.  When in form they don't care. Till pandemic Ashwin was probably one guy who played even local T20 leagues. In 2019 he played Ranji Trophy  took 27 wickets in 4  matches @15.17.  You cannot play 5 day format matches suddenly after a very long break. The thing is these guys use Test matches as practice matches for future Test matches. Gill should go back to domestic whenever he gets chances. I don't want a talent like him wasting his career.

KL Rahul needs a mentor or a coach who will counsel him to play his natural game. He needs to be reckless. He will fail a bit but will also churn out a few great innings with this approach. He can still turn it around or else it will be a waste of such a good talent.

Pant is better than all of them barring gavaskar in my opinion. Don't think we will ever have 50 plus averaging guys and it's better than way. Don't want superstars. Rather a bunch of team players who average lower than 50 but are match winners and not stat padders.

I don't have much hope now. Today's youngsters are content with a high IPL paycheck and whatever fan girls they get on SM playing IPL and useless Bilaterals.

I sadly don't think most have the fire in them to become an ATG International cricketer.

Andaa. Zero. But I see genuine passion for fast bowling. Hope it isn't curtailed by useless dravidaa and other morons.

I feel like we will definitely see more great Indian bowlers come through. Batting lol. Not sure. Will be happy with match winners rather than ladders.

Pujara always plays Ranji, he even played Ranji as soon as he landed from Australia once.
