May be some milestone on his mind. Like part of commentary team for 100 series like that.

That Arshdeep comment was  proper LOL...  Even Arshdeep himself must be laughing.  Bhogle went silent for a while too

 

But unlike Kartik,  Deep Das he really appreciates Umran bowl.  I'll take him over those 2 clowns anyday.  Kartik wasted one full hour talking about Chahal with RR coach Sanga

MK, just like DK, is a complete "inside guy" toeing the party line anywhere & everywhere! If that means bad news for India (team) so be it, he was also one of the most mediocre overrated spinners we've ever had

Tbf to Gavaskar he phones it in when he is commentating for India matches for some time now. The man is capable of insightful analysis specially when he is not commentating for Indian channels - rare I know - or when he feels passionately about something. Ye 90 saal tak kahin jane nahin wala hai.

Yes, he should retire from commentary..age is really catching up on him and been quite visible from some time now.

Arshdeep can be useful in SENA

He looks like a strict T20 bowler to me...  Don't think his body will be able to bowl 15-20 overs per day.

Problem with Gavaskar and other commentators is that they don't know much about domestic pacers.

 

Commentators like Nasser Hussain, Late Shane Warne, Michael Vaughan etc are very well aware of their domestic players (specially quicks) and back/hype them during discussions.

 

Unfortunately most of our commentators have no idea about it, maybe Harsha Bhogle a bit but that's all.

 

Hence when questions are asked, they have no alternative but to say the names which they can recall on top of their head. That's not based on potential but based on remembrance.

 

It's sad because these players have played cricket, but the passion with which commentators from other countries talk, this seems to be missing from ours. Sanga and Ather Ali hype their cricketers to the moon, while ours leave no room to point out their faults..Umran got some good words from Gavaskar but that's it.

the only thing about gavaskar is the anecdotes he gives. Like the way he faced the west indies quick, the Australian speedsters, the funny stories about miandad done to death, his fawning over kapil devs magic ( when once upon a time they couldnt see eye to eye), his stories about shastri etc. But remember one thing

now Gavaskar falls into the second category and he has earned it..but I am not sure which category Deep Dasgupta and Murali Karthik will fall under.. na hope hai na memory..

this old fart should have retired long ago., he has feasted too long on his past glories, much like how he feasted on sub-par WI of early 70s.
