vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Several injuries have set us back in recent times. Some intermittent. Some long term. Some may not retain the potency. Although we are ranked no.1 in 2 formats no.2 in Test format we could start feeling the pinch in the coming days. Pace options Bumrah (no real good news so far. At best 1 or 2 years) Shami 33 ( possibly 2 years left as this may not be his actual age) Umesh 35 ( 1 year top or never) Siraj 28 (if he stays on top we can get 5 years out of him) Stopgap pace options Unadkat ( 1 year) Thakur (1-2 years) Spin options This is one area we don't have to worry about right now We have both long term/short term options Ashwin (2-3 years) Jadeja (3-4 years) Axar (5 plus years) Kuldeep (5 pus years) Batting In batting department it is frustrating that we have not started the transition already. We are monkeying around here. Rohit Sharma 35 ( 1-2 years left) kohli 33 (should have been dropped already) Pujara 35 (should have been dropped already) Rahul 30 (should have been dropped already) Iyer (28) (still establishing) Gill (23) (still establishing) Keeping This is the most flaky area for us. It is simply impossible to find someone as good as Pant. Pant 25 (Indisposed for unknown length of period) Bharat 29 (untested) Kishan 25(untested) Sandz, Vijy, maniac and 3 others 4 2

Kohli could have quit Test cricket 2 years back and just enjoyed the IPL money and play few T20 games. His passion for Test cricket is hurting India more and more. Unless he retires BCCI is not really dropping him. Vijy 1
Arvind32 Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 In country like India , there will always be a talent . But really bad for Indian cricket is treatment of sone of talents by Bcci such as Sarfraz Khan , Gill , Jaiswal , Bishnoi , Sanju Samson . These are ultra talented players . Giving chances to old players like Rohit , Pujara and non performer like Rahul is setting up bad precedent . It will discourage many youths to take cricket as career after seeing the plight of talented youngster like Sarfraz Khan .

And in terms of moving the ball he's no Bhuvi or Philander. So I'm not sure that he offers utility in SA. Vijy 1

It seems like we may lose a lot of bowlers at the same time. Ones that are promising are yet to be tested in domestic. Tyagi, Sen, Arshdeep, Umran. Domestic circuit is dominated by left arm spinners. We will be left with Akash deep, Avesh Khan, Sakaria kind of bowlers. Edited February 27, 2023 by vvvslaxman
vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2023 Author Posted February 27, 2023 Did Prasid Krishna bowl well this season?
maniac Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 rule no.1 Don’t judge players on IPL. These Kuldeep Sens and Moshin Khans of the world can’t last a odi game so let’s not get carried away because they hit a couple of balls at 140 in a t20 game. How did they do in domestics should matter. a freak talent is exception to the rule obviously. I mean someone like a Bumrah or a Tendulkar. Even Umran is in that category as an express pacer.

It also hurts the career of such payers. Unadakat himself is a classic example. Introduced way too early against one of the ATG south african batting line up in their own den got battered bruised and never played for long time. If he had spent some time in domestic and made debut his career would have gone in a different trajectory. Edited February 28, 2023 by vvvslaxman maniac 1
tapandrun Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 They should have started when Kolhi stepped-down as captain. Last year t20 wc would have been good start, Ind was not going to win that WC, they were lucky that they won Pak match else their campaign would have been over in the 1st round. With Pant already out , Bumrah's future is not clear and there are other bunch of injuries. Kolhi, Rohit and Pujara may have past their prime. Test bowlers Umesh, Shami has to be phase-out. KL has not been able to cement his place.
StraightDrive26 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I think Washington Sundar should be in the scheme of things as well. Just as a batter he has done better than most of our top order other than Rohit may be. He should have been back in the squad as soon as he was back from injury. India consider him as a spin bowling all-rounder which is the reason he hasn't been considered but again as a batter he is better than most India have in the lineup now. Sarfaraz needs to be given a chance as well and we need Gill to be permanent member of the XI. Pujara & Virat need to go unless the latter scores some runs in the final 2 Tests. Jaiswal isn't going to be considered this early as there are people like Sarfaraz who are still struggling to get a look in. BacktoCricaddict and Vijy 2
vvvslaxman Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 India should bring back Bharat Arun. This Paras Mambhrey should be kicked out. Insidious and Throwaib_Chuckter 2

There's a lot of injury hit bowlers who can come back - Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel, both are proper tall bois, and may yet turn into contributors at the international level. Let's see.

Let's see. All the more reason we have to manage the workload of Siraj very carefully. Not exactly a spring chicken. So he has to be available non-stop for the next 3 or 4 years without losing much of his form.

While I agree to this rule, Kuldeep Sen didn't performed exceptionally in IPL...he was just ok. He performed his best during the Irani Trophy where he bowled overs after overs and bouncing out the batters..and this year's Vijay Hazare Trophy where he was blowing away the teams with his pace, while Avesh Khan was just bowling like a rookie in comparison to him. Sadly, his flight to international journey got truncated midway due to an back pain which is turning lengthier than what was assumed (seems NCA mess again).
Zero_Unit Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Circle of life. Every team will go through it sooner or later. SL is still going through it. PAK is starting to stabalize with an OK/Good team. BD will soon enter it after their 4 retires. Eng went through it and are now are in a comandable position. Aus is still going through it. We were bound to go through it. However, due to sheer cricketing talent, I can see alot of replacement that can come and do a decent job (sure experience matters but form matters too).
