Some idiots talk as if this guy is some useless bozo. Even with his 3 year long slump this guy has more international 100s than anyone else other than Sachin.

 

So guy like that getting prolonged run even after repeated failures is understandable. Question remains  can he regain some of his old mojo back .

I was surprised he scored even on flat pitch. Credit to him where it is due; I wasn’t expecting single 50 from him in the series. So what it took such a flat pitch aka Babbar Style Pitch! So what getting anyone out was almost impossible on 5th day on such pitch.

Neither Ashwin nor Axar were going to get out until they decided to accelerate. Probably Axar would have registered his maiden 100. Having said that Kohli has played on flat tracks and failed there too in recent times. First test BD, First test vs England.

Axar did not get out because he was playing his shots. Axar is good against spin but against pace , he is still very much WIP.

 

Ashwin is always a hit and miss with his bat.

Ashwin not hit and miss. He can buckle down and do well under pressure even at this age. Case in point Bangladesh knock. SCG knock. 2nd test 100 partnership with Axar. He has stepped up at very crucial times for us. On this track where even Murphy/Lyon made runs, there is no way everyone will fail. Everyone who failed here must be kicking themselves. Rohit, Smith.

Ashwin stepped up on few occasions but he flopped here clearly.You could see the disgust in kohli when he got out.Ashwin is always hit and miss with ability to play some crucial knocks.

 

Flat wicket does not mean bowlers are not allowed to bowl some good balls and batsmen don't play some bad shots.

 

So this notion that Kohli can score only on flat wicket is the most ridiculous thing ever, Kohli when right has scored  runs all over the world.

IN current form he doesn't even score on flat tracks. So that is a miracle he scored there. He did have flat tracks in the last 3 years. Didn't score in any of them. We have to stop going 3 years back. He was good. Nobody denies t hat. We only have to look at current form. His real test will be in WTC final.

Which Indian has scored in current form in flat wickets. The most number of 100 scored by Indian batsmen is 3 . The highest avg for any Indian batsman in last three years is 44.Pant is the only standout player.

Last 3 years average of 30 has no real excuse. He could have had 3 years of peak. Went missing in several Tests overseas. We didn't even need him to win at the Gabba or save a Test at the SCG. Kohli's average in the last 3 years in won matches is mere 25. \. Almost on par with Shami who averages 24. He is dispensable at this point.

These are stats in last three years for all matches. If Rohit had played in NZ and SA , his avg would have been in 30s also.There is no standout batsman in Indian team in last three years except Pant. So stop acting as if this guy is only guy who failed.

Even among the poor batsmen, Kohli is one of the poorest. That makes him even worse. Given the batting position he and Pujara occupy, given the experience  they have we cannot compare them with inexperienced players, noobs who have done marginally better than him. We cannot keep players based on comparison like we did with Rahane. Pujara is also like that. Score a random 50 somewhere and keep his place safe for another one year. No one said he was good .Last three years all the Indian batsmen including old and young have stunk. He was lone man standing for over a decade.He was found out technically in past also .He worked out his issues before then let us see if he can work out his issues now.

 

He has turned it around in whiteball cricket.He is not some run of the mill player, he is the best overall batsman of this generation.
