That was a miracle run tbh. Our athletes have gone to a different level in the last 4-5 years, may not be enough to win medals in Olympics but in quite a number of track events we are ahead of the East Asian powerhouses.

More evidence that it was never a lack of talent/physique etc., but a historic lack of investment in modern training/nutrition. Now, the tide is turning, hopefully..

A little bit of both, you can't overcome physics, or biology, that's just a fact but there are very few sports which are out & out decided on physique. Probably rugby comes to mind but even then you need a lot of good tactics there.

And training and nutritional support to reach one's full physical potential. That was lacking in the past.

It's definitely training, physical fitness and investment. But let us not forget. This is confidence that has been building from onset of this century. Earlier the manifestation was restricted to cricket. Since last 10 - 15 years, it has transitioned to other sports and smaller cities. In fact, it's tier 2 and 3 that are really giving the goods. Wonder what can explain this. Less distracted ? More focus plus infrastructure and more hunger ?

The confidence of the new generation esp in last decade is tremendous, esp the TierIi and Iii cities. Not knowing English doesn’t hamper them. Content providers in SM  in Hindi and regional languages  is increasing leaps and bounds and also in sports arena.

Just for example, look at how Rinku speaks even in Hindi. The BL and tone tone  is super confident.  A few years ago they would be speaking in squeaky English like many Pakistani players do.

Also let's also acknowledge that these sports are probably income-generators today, leading to the realization even non-cricket sporting excellence is not just a means to a government job, but an end in itself.

English is anyway not needed. Football players speak their language all the time. So do many cricketers.

But it would stop him from becoming a star even if he's successful.

Kapil Dev who could hardly spek English became a star. I think it is the performances that get appreciated.  Some become stars despite being mediocre cricketers just because they can talk English and Walk English like a Tracer bullet as if that is what the doctor ordered.

Kapil could speak little bit. And those were different times.

Today stardom means ads, insta followers etc.
