even then he could only hang around. Was never a hitter which is needed for a no. 8

Spot on .Shami could have made lot of difference in that 2019. Bhuvi so called batting ability got the nod.

But he flopped big time .

Why no one speaks about Deepak Chahar ??? He seems a potent batsman... Remember the match he won for the team with his batting against a strong Australian side ?? plus he swings the bowl early on...

Deepak chahar has to speak about himself first. He doesn't care much about internationals. He just gets fit enough to play half the IPL season and goes back to taking rest until next season. Why bother when you can make 14 crores every season in the IPL

He is the best choice for #8. Competent batsman and will make sure 6 overs of new ball taken care of and can bowl 2-3 in the middle

Allows you to save Bumrah for middle / death.

Chahar also got winning mentality as he has won multiple IPL titles

He has get himself out of hospital bed first.

He is competing with Sundar in no of days in hospital/year

Unfortunately, Chahar lacks the most important ability - availability. It is not necessarily his "fault," just a fact.

How did Bhuvi flop big time in that match?

Chahal, top order, the general fielding and catching flopped. Not sure how Bhuvaneshwar flopped.

Shami was ignored twice.

2017 CT Final

Shami wasn't that good in ODIs back in 2017. Used to routinely get thrashed at the death.

But dropping Umesh for Ashwin in the CT final is probably the second biggest blunder by Kohli that day, next to choosing to field first. Umesh bullied them in the group game...

He failed to take new ball wickets whole WC. Even Vijay Shankar managed one.

That is nothing but flop

Perfect conditions yet no new ball wickets. Thats a big time flop.

Then don't use him at death. Was always good upfront and in middle overs.

Hope in a few months this conversation will move on to Harshit Rana, Raj Hangargekar, maybe Atit Sheth and the seemingly bunch of left arm spinners who can bat (although each suited to different formats): Mulani, Saurabh Kumar, Manav Suthar, Nishant Sindhu latter two maybe need 1 or 2 seasons. Abhishek as a batting all rounder

True I understand it... Thats why Sunil Gavaskar has been so vocal on this issue... Too much money and glamour in IP is actually spoiling alot of potential players... Even Kamlesh Nagarkoti was a good prospect along with Shivam Mavi, both of these guys could bat down the order as well... But both of them faded too fast...

He was selected based on his batting ability and new ball bowling, he did neither.Shami was in red hot form during the world cup.

I forgot that 2017 CT, he would bullied them along with Umesh. Both of them should have played that match. Kumble was the coach I think then.
