It would have been great had they picked someone like Yashasvi, but alas that will not happen. See. It's the same squad. Can't expect any better from BCCI. to World Cup
Lord Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Expected squad. Would have liked Jaiswal over SKY and Ashwin over Axar. Rest all good. If first XI stays fit we can reach semis.

Dravid has no excuse for, it looks like squad is his choice. Not heard that but why that low rating? Honestly do not see why that is. Dravid is right, the ODI set up has been unlucky with injuries. Not TMs fault that SKY and Samson have not fully grabbed chances. Perhaps they could have been given consistent runs in a spots. It was right they were both tried.
zubinpepsi Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 If they were planning to have SKY in the WC squad, why didn't they select him for the asia cup.. these selections dont make any sense at all.. A guy whos been injured for a very long time walks into the WC squad without anything to show on performance.. bizarre selection.. and drawid, agarkar and rohit needs to be booted out for good after WC... this team wont even make it to the semis. rollingstoned 1

What has SKY done to warrant selection? It's not even like he bowls a few decent overs. He's a waste of space Jaiswal and Varma have not played a single ODI and Ruturaj has not played more than 2? Exactly why they dont warrant selection. If they had played a few matches instead of SKY we would be moaning about SKY not getting a longer run. Plus he is a no 6, where the others are two openers and a middle order bat. You can see why they want to invest in SKY with his talent and shot making. I think it is a case of finding the right spot for him

Have to give first teamers and first choice 11 a good run. Maybe in some of the final matches pre WC he can get a run. But this competitive tournament matches are perfect to harden the first 11 As for KL, given his pre injury form, can see why he is back in
saneindian Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 The WC is less than a month away now. It's good to come back to the forum once again. Feels nostalgic. A month before the 2011 WC, the forum's mood was as despondent as it looks to be right now. During the WC, we struggled in the initial phases despite a strong start vs BD, laboring wins vs Ireland and Netherlands, tie vs England, loss vs SA..but then came the QF and the real excitement began! To me, it's a balanced squad. There could always be a debate about one or two places. It's nice to see SKY being backed. He has been a ODI failure so far, but in a long tournament with nine league matches, if Iyer or Rahul were to lose form or get injured, I would much rather see SKY as the replacement than a Tilak Verma. As we saw with Pant and Shankar in the 2019 WC, a WC is too big a stage for any rookie without enough experience to be pushed into the cauldron. No Bhuvi, Chahar, Chahal are all positives, as is moving on from Dhawan. No 3-D type experiment is another huge plus. At least 8 more games (3 in Asia Cup, 3 vs Aus and 2 practice matches) to have the complete clarity of the final 11 for the first few matches in place before 8th October. rollingstoned, Mariyam, AuxiliA and 2 others 2 3

If Hardik has a niggle, they will be forced to play both Axar and Jadeja because the batters can't even roll their arm over. SKY needs to make it into the top 4 or he is pretty much useless in this squad. This is where Varma would have been more useful.

I think Sky with his range of shots and ability to go at a high Sr from the outset can be a better 6 than Hardik If an Iyer and/or KL is out Hardik can bat at 5 and Sky at 6
Adamant Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 The only selection I don't agree with is Axar Patel. Should have taken Prasidh over him or even some batsman like Tilak. Kl Rahul is a necessary evil. Also I truly believe thay he will do good at no. 5, as of now all of his failures are in the top order. The team lacks one Left handed batsman. Our batting lineup is made up of all righties from 1 to 6. The only way to deal with this is to send Jadeja at no. 4 where his batting will actually make some sense or even above Kohli when the conditions are too challenging and we need our best batsman for latet. This will make perfect sense Sharma Gill Kohli Jadeja Rahul Pandya Kishan/Sky Thakur Bumrah Siraj Kuldeep Jadejas batting at 7 is basically of no use, i prefer Kishan or maybe even sky (for cameos)
Adamant Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Also what's the reasom behind people being upset with Thakurs selection? He has a good bowling record in odis and has a habit of breaking partnerships. There's no other way to manage the balance of our team. Also Thakur is a perfectly fine 3rd pacer (or even 4th if Pandya is bowling his full quota). His stats are good enough.
cowboysfan Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 the bowling is weak.playing just 5 bowlers is a recipe for disaster especially with 2 all-rounder instead of proper bowlers.

Unless the captain and TM panic, we will play six bowlers through the tournament. 2 out of Bumrah, Siraj, with Shami as only the 3rd choice, Kuldeep, Hardik, Jadeja and Shardul/ Axar. On spinning or slower lower pitches at Chennai, Lucknow etc, Kuldeep, Jadeja and Axar all three likely to play. A decent enough bowling unit. Hopefully BCCI will not prepare flat roads where even 360-370 isn't safe. tweaker 1
SM2907 Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Someone help understand when can Sky be used in the final 11. Axar may replace Jadeja in case of injury or loss of form Ishan can replace KL Rahul or even play as a batsman In which scenario does sky come in and what does he bring to the table. He will be a hit and miss even he replaces someone out of form
SM2907 Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 In the final squad announcement I hope Sky is replaced with Tilak Varma or Prasidh Krishna
Nikhil_cric Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 I don't agree with this stupid balance but if we have to play this balance, then Washington should have been selected ahead of the fraud all-rounder Jadeja in the squad. Since Jan 01, 2021, while batting at 7 in ODI's. Jadeja averages 32 and strikes at 59 Washi averages 35 and strikes at 100 Axar averages 28 and strikes at 120 So much "high quality allrounder" and "automatic selection" singhvivek141 1

We've bigger issues. To begin with: do we have a bowling lineup that can bowl 50 overs in a game. Game after game. Given the propensity to get injured, I predict games where we will have to resort to Ro Sha or Kohli bowling. Later they will use 'bowling fatigue' as an excuse for a poor show while batting. Just want a win vs Pakistan. Don't think this team is capable of reaching the semis.

Would have been a nicer mix. But I don't mind Axar either. Some of the pitches will spin, or will be low and slow. Axar, if used, will be very handy there.
