Forget number 8. Let's look at Jadeja in ODI's against a few decent sides over a long period of time.

From Oct 11, 2014,

Opponents: OZ, ENG, NZ, PAK, SL, SA

Batting innings : 32 . Not outs 11 .  Runs  - 608

Batting average : 28.95 ; Strike rate :  83.63

Basically, will give you 19 runs an innings at 83 strike rate while batting . What a great finisher! Mashallah!

Bowling innings :  40 .   Wickets - 30 .  Bowling average - 64.80 , Economy - 5.22, Strike rate - 74.4

Oh, and not to mention Sir Fraudeja will now only bowl in the middle overs as seen in that Chennai ODI where he can dart and not look for wickets.   Unlike Axar who bowled in the PP and at the death.  If you are a bowling all-rounder as he pretends to be , you have to look for wickets or you're a waste of space.

Basically the biggest fraud in this lineup and in the squad.

These are Axar Patel's avgs against Aus, SA, Eng and NZ

Batting avg of 15.3 with SR of 86 with highest of 38

Bowling avg against same teams

is 46

So I will take my chances with Jadeja thank you very much.

Axar, if he plays, will play at 8, not at 7 if the team needs extra batting depth.   Jadeja in reality is competing with Washington and Washington has definitely shown more ability to hit than Jadeja. He was hitting Henry and Milne at the death when we toured NZ.

Also, Hardik is a much superior player at #7 against top sides.  Average of 35 and strike of 117 while offering a wicket taking threat as well.

Just play the extra batter in the top 6 like Varma and get a few overs.  Jadeja's bowling is hardly better than a part-timer as I've shown.

Jadeja does not have to play every match just like in 2019. He needs to be in squad and based on pitch and opposition he will play.

To say he does not belong in the squad is ridiculous.

Hardik 's average vs three top nations:

Australia - 55 @111

England - 44@120

Pakistan - 69@132

Virat Kohli once said, - "When I retire, I wish I could end up with the batting averages and strike rates vs top teams like Hardik Pandya has."

Jadeja's batting has improved, so his stats from 2014 don't really matter.

He is the one eyed king amongst the blind.

Brat says a lot of BS things all the time, yet when push comes to shove he's a grade S p**** in ODI KO games! Sobers lite is no better with just one innings to show in his nearly 8 year old intl LO career.

PR in cricket has reached next level. The way we see promotion of Bollywood actors in media through some news or other, cricket was untouched by this nonsense because I think ex-cricketers believed, performance is the only way to stay in team so why waste time and money on PR.

But now I see even a bottler like KL has fan armies attacking people who criticise him lol. Campaigns running for Dhawan's and Chahal's inclusions.

The bigger concern is why someone like Kartik Tyagi apparently playing this UP T20 league? What does it add to his dev. These guys are better off trying to get into CPL or something

They are not allowed to play in T20 leagues of other countries.

This is the next best thing as there is no domestic cricket going on now.

One has to look for a practical solution.

And that's a mistake. There is no point in playing these domestic leagues because very few improve playing domestic cricket in India.

That's not true. Bumrah, Shami and Siraj formed solid bases by playing domestic cricket in India.

It is the players, who don't play domestic cricket, who keep breaking down and lack skills.

Lots of match practice is the key to success. All the WI greats used to play lots of low profile County cricket matches.

We will end up disagreeing a lot over this but it is a futile argument.

The fact that Bumrah got through the system with that action and run-up shows how bad our system is.  Siraj is another bowler who can only get it right when he is in bowling rhythm and does not have a well-drilled action where you can tick things off a checklist and bowl fairly optimally even when he is not in the best rhythm.  That's why he often bowls without control and gives more wides than any of our bowlers.

Only Shami has a decent run-up and action and he found out what worked for him only after he had played international cricket for 2 years.

Do these coaches know that Tyagi needs to focus more on strength and conditioning especially and he will be better served by not having too much momentum through the crease?

He's 22 years old. If he is not constantly monitored especially since he doesn't look particularly durable, he'll just be another talenet lost in the system.

That's a whole different issue and I agree with many aspects. Like the fact that our system produces pacers with actions poorer that Australia or South Africa. Most of our bowlers don't use their body or shoulders enough.

Buy my point was about playing lots of matches in domestic cricket as against just bowling at the nets.

Whether good or bad, bowlers aged 21 to 25 or higher have set bowling actions which won't change drastically. Action mouding has to happen during teen age.

Bowlers aged 21+ must play lots of actual matches and also do strength and conditioning training. Both are necessary.

Not true at all. Pat Cummins got his current action drilled in till he was almost 24.  Lee started remodelling his action at the age of 24 and had a lot of success in int'l cricket after that.

Tyagi has time. Pat Cummins made his debut at 18 and barely played any cricket (even domestic) until he was 24.  His workloads were very carefully managed and then when he had roted that action to muscle memory, he started playing int'l cricket regularly.

Mind you, there will always be limits . He had the ability to clock upto 155 kph but he would not have been able to sustain it so he settled on being a 140's bowler and having a career instead of killing himself by trying to bowl too quick or too much.

We don't know what speeds Nagarkoti, Tyagi etc. can bowl sustainably even with the best-grooved actions and management. Bowling high intensity and high volume is impossible for most and even the most durable quicks struggle to do that over a period of time.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar comes to mind. He had a fairly correct action and had the ability to clock 146 kph but sustaining even those speeds were hard for that frame of his and he kept breaking down every time he strived for that 140+ pace consistently.

He has bowled over 25,000 balls over FC + List A + T20 cricket. In a T20 World Cup year, he ended up playing 46 T20's  and he couldn't even bowl 80 mph properly by the end.

If the TM were hell bent on playing him, a 32 year old Bhuvi who was well-managed and bowling in his optimum pace of 133-138 kph would have been of much more value .

Similar issues with Arshdeep playing an entire IPL and then 21 odd T20is that year.

All of these bowlers should be prepped to be at their best for ICC tournaments if they ae definitely playing.

Agree to an extent... but with Bumrah it is that action and run up that makes him so deceptive and effective right? By moulding him into something "orthodox" he would lose a lot of his potency no?

If anything over coaching can be a problem too, we lose the "mavericks" that way. Why are England and Aussies able to produce more than one of these power hitters with a range of shots, when we do not really. SKY aside, Our older top batsmen cant or dont reverse sweep or scoop. Maybe too focussed on technique and correctness.

Remodeling of actions at 21+ happens when there are injuries hampering the bowler. Rarely happens otherwise.

And Austrslia has the infrastructure and knowhow to remodel actions at a later stage.

Our setup and knowhow for quick bowling is probably the worst in the world. Even Bangladeshi and SL pacers have stronger actions.
