His mentality of batting went on all the other batsmen. We are now filled with tuk tuk machines.

Yaar, Even English cricket fans regard Misbah. He has his limitation but was a true class on his day. Chk score card. All your batmen used to and still fall like cards because of some standard weakness apart from few days of novelty.

No, we respect players, genuinely great players. That man deserves all the respect. He gave it all for his country, a true fighter he was!

Not true. Misbah screwed his team in same manner dhonJ does now. Interestingly Indian fans appreciate Misbah for same reason that Pakistan fans do for dhongi now. Even words are same: At least dhongi/Misbah scores so why blame him.

He was a true gentlemen nothing more. As a player he knew how to bore the crowd. He was a better version of Azhar Ali.

There in lies the problem. Yes, its great and preferable to watch KP bat instead of Cook, but if you dont even have a Afridi in your team, rather watch Cookesque Misbah

More apt analogy will be Dravid. His odi innings were allways what we call "good second". Misbah odi inning were just "second"

Cook has more shots. He has a better brain than Misbah. He can play big innings while Misbah tuk tuks till he loses his wicket. The guy had trouble scoring 100s because he wasted so much time blocking. If you do that all the time you will eventually get a good ball.

So, Cook has/had beasts coming even if he lost his wicket.  who Misbah had to rely on if he lost his wicket? In most cases, it was game over for his team. Not many can gauge the impact of this difference in mentality (solid batsmen in queue) unless they have actually been in such situation.

There's a reason why Rahul Dravid is regarded so highly. Btw, give me a few names Misbah could have depended upon? It was always upto him, didnt have choice to go all out. Just the same way some of our bowlers like Srinath were.Never had the support, despite being excellent players.

You guys like Misbah because he played for you.

I liked Misbah because he laid a bleprint for test cricket. He kept on coming back. he was patient and could grind it out. He was my hero because I associate him with blue collar mindset that just kept on performing.

More than anything he was not suffering from verbal diarreah that 90% of pakistan cricket team suffers.

He was what a classy batsman should be. Much respect.

Totally disagree. One has captained and won all major ICC tournament titles, the other has a grand TOTAL OF 0 MAJOR ICC TOURNAMENT WINS!!

There is no comparison in terms of ability either. Agreed, Dhoni's best years are past him, but Misbah was never a Dhoni type player. Dhoni in his best days had the ability to turn the game on its head with his batting.

Let's not make unfair comparisons between two very different players.

Where is the comparison between abilities of dhoni and Misbah in my post?

It was but obvious that I am not comparing the two throughout their career or on their abilities.

I am just saying  like dhoni is screwing Indian team in his last phase of career , similarly Misbah did the same for Pakistan during his  final stages. And fans across border make similar comments in support of them. Pakistani fans for dhoni and Indian fans for Misbah.

At least in ODI this is 100% truth. In Tests Misbah has been good. But captaincy not upto the mark.

But now that we are at it this is what I feel about the two :

Misbah is a good test player, ordinary ODI player and a good t20 player( I don't rely on Avgs only)

Dhoni is slightly above average test player, an ODI great and a below average t20 player.

Misbah was a limited player.  But he was 100% committed and worked hard, did the best he could within those limitations.  He saved a very weak Pakistan a lot of blushes.  Obviously that is not enough to endear him to Pak fans who want to see dominance.  Doesn't sit well with the ego.

I respect him for his efforts and as a classy opponent.  But one flaw I will point out with Misbah, especially in the last couple of years of his career.  He always hid way down the order behind young, inexperienced, and often incapable batsmen.  Even when it was clear that the team needed him to step up.

Now he is. No doubt about that. But our padosis will take that as a compliment, which I don't want.

not a nice statement to make,he might have had his limitations but he was genuinely the only player in the pakistani team last 10 years whose wicket costed something ,whatever the situation.

Thats cause he blocked his wicket regardless of the match situation. Others made him look better than he was.

Nothing wrong in holding one end. Five days matches are about attrition not some fancy shots. Tire the other team out or call him boring but with instant gratification culture people did not like him. Opposition always knew if they could het Misbah and Younis rest of the team will fold.

Well we are now playing without them now. Maybe they should have trusted batsmen on there time so we don't fold the way we did. This is why I like Jaywardene and Sanga better.

I like jay and Sanga too but I would be dishonest if I dont give credit to Misbah and Younis. Without those too you lost to a very average SL team. If Pakistan starts losing two matches in a row to SL it is time for introspection.

Don't forget we lost to Zimbabve and West Indies with those two. I only liked Younus Khan but even he started becoming inconsistent near the end of his career.

That loss is so hard to explain. I still dont understand the one to Zim.
