Is this biggest opportunity in history of Australian cricket?

Recommended Posts

Everyone talking about final from Indian team pov, but let's look at this from Australian pov.

They have already

1. Won WTC

2. Retained Ashes

3. Won a test in India. No other team has won a test in last 11 years.

4. Opportunity to win WC.

This is their biggest opportunity. If they win WC, it will be their greatest year ever?

Eng won a test in 2021.

I'm pretty sure the 99-07 Aus team had better years.

2002-03 won ashes, won wc. no wtc then.

same as 98-99 and 06-07.

earlier world cups used to coincide with ashes in australia.

the twin ashes in 2013 changed the order. now wc coincides with ashes in england.

A year is a very random time frame. Why only look at it from a calendar year PoV.

If you randomly start from July to July next year, their achievements maybe lesser.

They aren't winning anyways.

Lost test mace in 2002-03, although it was a sham. SA won it after beating pakistan 2-0 at home even after losing to Aus 5-1  during that cycle (3-0 away, 2-1 home)

Oz cricket peaked in 2004 when they last won a series in India, against a slightly depleted Indian side winning 3 tosses ^ batting first, after 35 odd years then they lost the Ashes right back in 2005 after 2 decades!

We would have easily won the second test on a crazily flat chennai pitch..227 to win and we were 19/0 ( in 3 overs) and then came rain all day 5

I think we would messed that up. No Sachin remember, and Dravid/VVS/Dada were totally out of form. Yuvi was our opener, Pathan #3, even Kaif was part of the XI. Sehwag was never a great 4th innings player and was due a failure. Against McWarne, Gillespie, Kasper...and our legendary mental weakness which was exploited by 3rd class Pak bowling unit one year later in Bengaluru.

The ghost of 4th innings carried on from Bengaluru to Mumbai in 2006 where we got wrecked by Shaun Udal of all people

2005 Bengaluru defeat was painful. Pitch was still a patta and we folded against a clown unit of Sami, Razzaq, Afridi, Kaneria and Arshad Khan...our ATG batting unit!!!!

Same with 2006 Karachi test, and the lack of killer instinct in 2007 home series against poyzzzz.

Goes to show that the unit was mentally weak rather than being inferior skillwise.

This Australian team is different from the team we beat earlier...head s return..marsh warner and Maxwell are in form and smith is clutch. Zampa is also bowling well and was injured earlier.

Flat pitch and Australia batting first would make the match 70-30 in their favor. Same goes for India too.

Our lack of batting depth is going to be risky.

Slow pitch..I think we are the favorites.

Our team is also different from last time we played them. Shami is the third pacer, not pandya and Gill is opening in place of ishan kishan at Ahmedabad. India are favorites 60-40
