Any one who thinks Ind could hv outplayed Aus on a flat pitch in the Final should recall this game played only a couple of months ago.  https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-in-india-2023-24-1389381/india-vs-australia-3rd-odi-1389390/full-scorecard

This was the eye opener not for the match result but to give importance to maxwells bowling.. all 4 wickets he took were innocuous ball trap which Indians fell into.. knowing that shouldnt have rohit been a bit more careful..he lost his wicket 2 times in last 3 matches to maxwell..

20.6 Spanked straight back at Maxwell who has picked up a stunner! It was more evasive action than anything else. Maxwell was looking to move out of the way, and just put the right hand up. The ball sticks. He is just as bewildered as anyone else on the field. Was bowled quicker on the stumps. Rohit backs and and tonks it back at the bowler, who somehow hangs on 144/2

26.5 Maxwell has three and Kohli departs now! Quicker on leg stump but not as short as Kohli anticipated. He eyes the pull but gets a top-edge that balloons straight up. Smith runs back from midwicket. For a second it feels he has lost the ball, but he regains his composure and settles under the catch. 171/3

Glenn Maxwell took the top three wickets
Virat Kohli brought up his fifty in the 26th over

I thought it was in June 2024 ( 7 months away ) in the WI of all places.

India is going to play only 11 International T 20s out of which 5 are with Aussies. Calender is jam packed with 1.5-2 months ipl south Africa tour and England playing 5 tests in India

In this match (3rd odi on a flat patta) as well as in the WC Final, our batters never looked comfortable against Maxwell.   On a flat pitch too, we would hv lost to Aus (most likely) in the Final, I believe.     Head could hv got to a 100 ball double century as well.

Yes but at least india would have had 40 % probability of winning based on the first 2 odis ( we should also consider those right.. sky iyer got india home).. losing a toss on a stable like black soil pitch which holds up during day but becomes a batting paradise in evening under lights.. the probability of winning after losing toss and batting first was less than 10 %

There was a very very good comment.. someone said.. If India would have won the toss and batted first india would have scored 300 in final..  the fact that india lost the toss and australia told them to bat first made them circumspect and more nervous as they started doubting everything..which led to the meek batting performance... that was the australian masterstroke.. the battle was won in the head after toss..

IMO, First 2 ODIs should not be considered.  Coz those were against Aus B team (without Starc, Cummins and Maxwell)   And not to forget Aus's batting was also depleted without Head in that entire series.  Head is a typical India Bully.  He always enjoys toying with our bowlers.  (Recall WTC horror final).     I think in this WC Final game, we could hv won if Rohit had stayed at the crease for another 8-10 overs and played every ball on merit,  like he did against Eng on a slightly more tricky pitch.  We had already got 75 runs in just 9 overs.  There was no need for him to go after every ball.

And similarly thats why we miss Pant as well.. To me in last 3 years there were only 2 noteworthy events in indian cricket.. not  considering Asia cup which was played in subcontinent.. we played a depleted sl in final on top of it..

1. Gabba Test Win and series.. Pants epic

2. Beating England in the LOI Final in England. Pant scores a century

.. and both had Pant in Prime

OMG...

The audacity of Indian fans to actually sit and with straight face say India would have won a batting belter against AUS is mind blowing.

You keyboard warriors really think on a batting track with dew coming in Aussies would have not murdered Jadeja, Siraj and even Kuldeep in the WC final?

It was simple: Aussies came with a plan and Rohit had no answer.

Keyboard warriors will come running and say we need a good wicket like NZ match. If it was NZ type pitch, Aussies would have had a different plan.

I don't know why people think in the international level the opposition is stupid?

Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood are known to bowl economically if they wish or go for the wickets and be expensive.

They neutered Iyer, Gill, KL Rahul and SKY with a perfect bowling plan. Slow pitch or not, this aussie attack would no way concede 397 runs like NZ in the same track, that too in world cup final.

They are not newbies to just dish out puff thrown at SKY today. We all knew this series like all other series post WC is meant to pacify Indian fans after another failure.

We also know that Rohit was scared as hell in NZ game once Daryl Mitchell was going all guns blazing. There's a reason why used pitch was used in Ahmedabad. They were scared of Maxwell, Head and Mitch Marsh having a field day on a batting track. Plus having just 5 bowlers meant they had to have a used pitch.

The reality is idiot fans deserve this HOPE. It's a powerful coping mechanism.

International level requires incredible attention to detail and application. It's not about templates.

Everyone comes with a plan till they are punched in the mouth.. Mike Tyson

If India got to a blistering start we would have seen how Australians would have coped.. when you see 135/ 1 in 20 overs ( even in this hell hole india were 80 odd for 1 in 10 overs) you become defensive..same would have happened with australia.. we never got a chance to see that due to the pitch..and remember india has a positive win loss ratio against australia in odi s in last 10 years..just go back and see what india did to aussies on a flat track in 2019 wc.. and aus had same team kind of but india had vijay shankers in the 11.. but india still pummelled them..

Yeah but their famed bowling attack did the job when it mattered. Oh and our famed bowling attack did jack squat when it mattered. In our house and our pitch too.

That's the difference.It wasn't a typical Indian pitch

Actually if they had prepared a batting pitch, it would have helped India whether they batted first or second. If they had won the toss and batted first on such a pitch,

maybe not 400 but 350 was definately gettable.

Because all the batsmen were in form, especially Kohli, Rohit and even Iyer, Gill, Rahul, SKY, Jadeja bat well on patta wickets. If they had to chase, they should have backed themselves to even chase down 350 as it gets even better under lights.

But by preparing a dry, used pitch they shot themselves in the foot because it was slow in first innings and got better under lights. So winning the toss gave a huge advantage to Aus.

Aus would easily chase 340 on a batting belter as they won the toss.

Rohit hid Siraj and trusted jadeja lol.

You fools are like zombies sent by BCCi to shut down criticism.

Rohit Sharma and Dravid had zero plan and strategy.

You can sit and cry about what it's but 12 years of knockout losses with mostly same senior players should tell you everything.

Yes and India won 10 matches in a row and before that asia cup and Aus series everything with zero plan and strategy and all due to other teams playing crap purposely against india.. yes i agree

India doesn't have a strategy or fielding class to make opponents work for every single run. in the semi final India conceded 25 extras in the first 16 overs. Similarly, we gave away too many extras against Australia. Australia due to all rounders covered all the bases. They have 2 genuine part timers, 2 occasional part timers as spinners. Then 3 genuine quicks. 1 medium pacer to cover just in case just in case pitch offered something for seamers. So essentially 5 spinners, 4 medium pacers. India had 3 seamers,  2 spinners. That's it. Having more bowlers gives you an advantage of slipping in a few overs here and there without damage.

Honestly Australia was crap most of the time.  Allowing head and Marsh to get away with cheap overs is nothing to do with great strategy. Just have KL Rahul at the crease with 3 down. They could have warner as a bowler we would still have defended because we are terrified of collapse as batsmen at  6 and 7 are practically useless.  Australia didn't even have to work hard to get there. Rohit and Gill gifted the wickets. If Iyer had gotten out first over in the semi final we were not going to make the final.

But they did not get punched in the mouth. Their plan worked and they won a sixth WC.

NB - Indian cricket team is no Mike Tyson...

Have they got the WC trophy? No?

There is one winner and India is 1 of 9 losers.

they would have if bcci did not screw up the pitch. Indias 1-5 were in prime form going to finals. A flat pitch with rohits start was a sureshot 350 target. Under lights it might have been easy to chase but pressure would have been different and in addition to the risk they took in first 10 overs ( losing 3 wickets) australia would have had to take risks throughout middle overs against jadeja kuldeep unlike the sleepwalk to victory they did chasing 240.

Structure of the Australian team was perfectly suitable for that sluggish pitch. Three aggressive at top .3  Two tuks tuks in the middle.  Two chancy aggressive followed by them. Plus a great 8 and 9.  You need the top 3 to beat them. Others can be managed.
