We need to seperate the records from 2000- 2013 when India had so called great batting and then from 2013 till now.

I can't understand why we can't win in SA or NZ.

This NZ team lost to even Bangladesh.

And SA were whitewashed by Sri Lanka in 2019 when they had De Cock, Amla, Du Plesis, Steyn and Rabada. They were much weaker in 2021 which was our best chance, but both batsmen and bowlers choked very badly.

SA has two set of venues, highlands and lowlands. Easier for asian teams to play in lowlands.. they hosted sri lanka there. India rarely gets a game there

We should have won 2-0 in NZ in 2009 but thala was setting a target of 600 and NZ managed a draw

We shd have won in 2014. We were well set to chase 380 ofd till umpire gave a stinker of a decision to rahane and we had no drs. Then next match we were 200 ahead and kohli drops mccullum

They prepare 'special' pitches for Indian team. And needless to say that our batsmen havent helped the cause either.

Its a damn good record, regardless. The youngsters on ICF havent seen the 90's era where Indians never won anything outside of India.

@Trichromatic It will be nice to see Pakistan's record between 80's to 90's, where they supposedly had the best bowling attack.

They have a reasonably strong record. 3 consecutive series wins in England(87-96, drawn series in 2001), dominated in NZ till 2011, a drawn series in SA 1998 and a couple of Test match wins in Australia even.

If RSA, NZ give us the pitches they serve to Aussies, we would win more than lose in their countries. They dish out the worst pitches for us and then whine when they land in India. Who can forget the horror NZ pitches of 2002? And we welcomed then in India in 2004 with ultra pattas which ensured a drawn series. Never show mercy to such countries.

SA1998 series was when Shoaib Akhtar made his debut. And Allan Donal said he had never seen anyone that quick. They were blown away by Akhtar.

Pakistan did well in England and dominated NZ. But then, NZ made an allegation that they were tampering the ball. So did English team.

80s/90s Pak was dominant in NZ and Eng. Competitive enough in Aus, RSA, WI but didn't win too many matches. At home they weren't that good and in 90s lost to Zim, SL, forget big teams like Aus.

Their golden era in cricket is overrated. In hockey/squash I agree they were GOAT level but delusional to compare peak Pak cricket team to 90s RSA, never mind ATG WI/ Aus.

Those 2002 pitches were replicated in 2020 in NZ.  Basin Reserve Wellington

was the worst the first game.  The fake argument that pitches flatten didn't pan out the way in both games.

2014 was better in contrast & it is a travesty we couldn't win both games heck even 1.

I was heartbroken after we lost the game 1 by 40 odd runs while chasing 400+.

Bigger setback than Adelaide 2014 coz we didn't deserve that win but Wellington stung for a while.

I had taken a break from cricket that time so didn't follow live, just watched a few balls here and there without attachment. In hindsight that Kohli drop of Baz is so infuriating. We should have won that test by an innings, instead Baz added 290 more runs himself.

Yeah Ishant Sharma called B Mac Behen*d on stump mic  in that game:phehe:

I didn't watch that game coz of what happened in previous one...  Watching Tests in NZ waking up early is tough in winters :giggle:

90's RSA is actually overrated in Test cricket. Where exactly did they win?  They didn't win a Test series in England, India, West Indies, Australia. They won in PAK, SL and NZ.

Basically 4 away tours. And they didn't really dominate NZ in 98/99 either.

Couldn't beat OZ at home in the entire decade and narrowly won 1-0 vs England in a 5 Test series at home in 1995/96. Also drew 1-1 vs PAK in 1998.

They weren't dominant enough at home and not exceptional away either.

Graeme Smith's SA were better. 2006 to 2014-15 they only lost 2 test series. Won everywhere else and drawn 2 series in India. Only ATG WI or Australia were better than them.
