Josh Hull is the only one who managed one england call up last year but also lacks pace. The fact that almost every batsman has been able to play comfortably on their first game in the country tells you this is not something to read too much into.

The test pitch will be very difficult and this is A tour.Only 1 or 2 player from the A team may play in the test.

Jaiswal is automatic choice and only Karun has any chance to be considered for the test test.

 

Most probably Rahul,Gill,will play in 2nd test

His left side ( leg side for right hander) takes are iffy. When there is a blind spot he gets frozen and reacts late. I don't say he can't improve. Even as a keeper you can improve. But it is there. For spin he is doing okay. Also he has to be more assertive with DRS calls.  And importantly he has to share his observations about which line is good, which length is good with bowlers in addition to providing encouragement. There are no golden rules for how a keeper should behave. But it helps the team.

I agree Jurel's batting sample size is too small. But it's not one inning.  He played 2 innings in BGT (1st test).  Failed in both.   Just saying.

This guy was hyped by the Pant haters on ICF so much. Is clearly not only an inferior bat to Pant but an inferior keeper too.

 

He might be marginally better keeper than Pant against spin but way worse than Pant against pace keeping.

It was NEVER a debate of Pant vs Jurel on SENA tours.  It's a debate of Pant & Jurel together.  Coz most keepers  (including Pant) won't last 5 tests on a tour.  Pant got injured in the 3rd test as well as in the 4th test.  Despite his injury, our Middle Order bailed us to a draw in the 4th test.  I hv never been a Pant hater, yet I always wanted Jurel and Pant to be rotated as much as possible (Just in order to keep Pant fresh. He continues to be injury prone as he is making a comeback after deadly accident).    Jurel will get his chances.   If he does OK, he will be our backup WK.  There was never a question of him replacing Pant. (Unless pant regresses terribly)

Pant got injured because he got hit by balls, those are freak injuries. Keepers generally do last all matches 

 

None of his injuries have anything to do with his accident or fitness, it was because he got hit with balls.

 

And if we need a backup keeper we need to look for a better one than Jurel overseas.

Ishan Kishan, Anuj Rawat, Upendra Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh ? 

 

Simply running behind a young player is a habit which some ICFers won't leave ever. Once that young player is able to perform, everyone will jump on the bandwagon and call themselves as it's biggest fan.

 

No one is calling out Pant, he is most respected player for India in tests, yet you're here calling out every young keeper.

Indian fans only go after youngsters. The kind of vitriol and hounding these young guns like Sundar, Sai, Jurel face on this forum is disgusting. Everyone has his/her favorites and any youngster who shows promise is marked out as a target.

 

Aussies have Konstas, Green....Saffers with Jansen, Zorzi....Poms with Bashir, Crawley, all are backed despite inconsistencies, subpar returns. Rachin has had a torrid time after the India series, yet don't see any campaign against him. Because it takes time for youngsters to mature, shed their nerves, get some consistency.....even Jaiswal is going through a phase of inconsistency like Rachin (these kids are also up against data analysts feeding opponent team plans/tactics, in their 2nd/3rd years when their flaws are easier to discern, and mixing of formats because of which bad habits creep in), and see how impatient we are with him. Labu after a great start to international cricket is back to square one, cricket at that level is really tough and unless you adapt, you won't have a long career. 

 

Some players like Pant, Bumrah are ready from day 1 and face less hiccups, because they are truly special, GOAT potential candidates....they have so much cricket left but already one is compared to Gilly, the other to Marshall. Others may take more time to mature. You want to build a team for the future, then show patience. Who knows, maybe even Kamboj will return after 4 years as a better player, he is just 23-24 now, never write off any youngster, especially someone who has caught the eye of legends, those guys will have an eye for talent (or some quality) which eludes normal fans . Maybe what they show in nets, they can't replicate in match situation due to nerves? And here you guys are passing judgment on players in their 4th or 5th tests.

What people forget about the great Aussie team is not everyone there had a fairytale, hiccup free career. 

 

Hayden debuted in 1994, wasn't up to the mark. Then made his name 7 years later in the 2001 BGT, that time he was 30. Similar story with his famous partner, Justin Langer. And guys who made the cut over them, like, Slater, Elliot, Blewett weren't exactly ATGs. Mark Taylor was an exception and deserved his spot, apart from batting he was a brilliant captain and the best slip catcher in the world for a long time. 

 

Gilchrist had to wait till Healy's retirement before he debuted at the age of 28-29. Healy was a mid 20s averaging player, but was preferred for his keeping abilities, like our Saha. 

 

Damien Martyn debuted in 1992, flopped. He made his comeback in 2001 Ashes, consolidated his position in 2001-02 RSA tour, and never looked back.

 

Symonds didn't get a look in till 2003, when he was 30.

 

Michael Hussey debuted at the age of 30.

 

Glad Aussies had more foresight than Indians, where we expect finished products at the age of 22-23.
