have a guy like Kumble who thought he was bigger than the team.Gambhir falls in same category.

I don't get headmaster vibes from Gambhir. I just feel like he's the kind of guy who will stand up for his players and mentor them. But then again, what do I know? We're all shooting in the dark and wildly speculating here. But, if he is anything like Kumble who will berate his players and treat them like children, then no thank you.

Or coaches' own incompetence/arrogance hinders coaches.

E.g., Gregory Chappell.

Talking about present. Chappell though also was hated due to spat with stars.

I really hope Gambhir who is an idiot does not get this job.

Could be good for the transition to fire seniors like RoKo and then we can get the real one

He doesn’t have the Kumble face, which is a big positive.

When did he do that?

Probably Faf as a coach if he moves on after this IPL... His role as a captain in RCB's revival after 5-6 defeats in a row is underestimated.

There were reports after CT defeat in 2017.

One might argue that the players deserved it, but it just seems over-the-top Veeru Sahasrabuddhe type behavior in a professional setting.

India lost the final of the ICC Champions Trophy by 180 runs at The Oval on Sunday, an embarrassing defeat against a Pakistan team they easily beat in the group stage.

India Today has learnt that Kumble blasted the players, who were already disappointed with the defeat, for about half-an-hour in the dressing room after their final defeat and it did not go down too well with them. It seems majority of players were in favour of Kumble being removed as most didn't get along with him or his style of coaching.

Thing is Kumble learned art on the job..he wasn't extremely talented hence had to work hard to get whatever he achieved.

Such players understand the value of hard work is everything and will push everyone towards doing the same. Now not everyone is same and will not agree with that process.

I am 100% sure the same sparks will flow even if we get Gautam Gambhir too as a coach. He is a hardworker, serious guy who is passionate about the game, hence some people may not like his extra serious attitude.

Such taskmasters if they fit with a team..they can simply do wonders. However if there are conflicts, everything will quickly go down the drain and explode.

Which is where learning to manage people - knowing what buttons to push when, mentoring without yelling and berating players - comes in. Ravi Shastri may not been the tactician or strategist that everyone wanted, but he was also a very limited but highly determined and extremely hardworking cricketer.  He seemed to find a way to keep the players at ease. Why - Gary Kirsten was a barely talented player, but knew how to get the best out of the team.

sastry was a very adept captain - something most people don't know, regardless of whether they liked his coaching or not

'Reports' were planted by Kohli PR.

if we get rid of them, most options would work. Star power is biggest thing hindering coaches

Kohli, Rohit etc weren't stars when they started, if they go, some others will become stars, and the cycle will continue. Gill is already seems to be ready to fill those shoes.

It's in the culture, not the individuals. Tbh, the blame lies more on the fans than the individuals themselves.

It's a cancer culture, till this is addressed, cricket in India will continue to suffer.

Yes, the PR culture plays a big role, but it works because it is encouraged by people, Just look at the star culture in Bollywood, the same has been carried over in Cricket, because Cricket is the only thing that has become a hit among masses after Bollywood. The bots are just to make it viral, but real people do get involved, its like a herd, everyone wants to be a part of it. I am not talking about just looking at SM, at least from my experience, I have seen similar behavior in people irl.

This worship culture is nothing new to India, the PR guys just take advantage of it, it's not the cause, it's a symptom of a disease.

Likes of Gill, Pant or whoever aren't that big today but once they become the seniors and mainstays of the team, there will be just more stars, more PR and their cult base is all I am saying.
