Rohit made a strategic mistake maybe his biggest of giving it to Axar knowing kuldeep got hit and Klaasen is their best player of spin. South Africa I always felt looses from a strong position. 30 of 30 with 6 wickets in hand was a strong position. It will not get easier than that. 26 in 24 is even easier. 2 overs of Bumrah went for 6 runs. So 18 runs needed from other bowlers. One noball, one free hit, one wide byes katham katham. It is incredible nobody made any mistake. It still required a superlative high pressure catch. One of the main factor is long tail. That is always bound to blow up on their faces. It almost blew up on them many times in this series. They somehow held their nerve and got to the final. Ultimate_Game and rollingstoned 2

REmember how South Africa was cruising against Pakistan at chennai in the world cup. One stupid shot they collapsed. It was down to shamsi and Maharaja to see them through with a streaky 4 or something The Hound 1
Need4Speed Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) Marco Jansen is fine for number 8 bat..they will need one more batter or AR at 7..may be phelukwayo type..they will lose one potent bolwer in the process though.. India also had to somehow stretch batting till 8..which gave cushion..its separate matter Jaddu wasnt in form.. Edited July 2, 2024 by Need4Speed Suhaan 1

According to him it was bowler's fault for not defending 160 odd at Adelaide and 240 on a patta in Ahmedabad. As per him batsmen have always shown up in knockouts and not the bowlers Forget that, he even thinks that India's Aus series win in Aus and WT20 win in 2007 was due to "seniors" After coming across this lunatic I understand why Kohli fans are so derided. I think Klaasen went after the wide after he thought it was a pressure release shot after bumrah bowled that over. It was a trap. Another thing was reverse swing. Probably they don’t account for that.
Vilander Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Not every team will have a 2024 bumrah, they are few and far you need to go to windies or Aus great teams or Pak or with wasim at peak to find a team that had an equitable impact pacer. SA will probably win the next one they are young and have an aspect of not taking anything for granted outsider grit vibe about them now. Afg vs sa whje Ind Aus and Eng slip in a tourny.

Lot of things happend for that dismissal.. Klassen was in beast mode and believed he can hit anything.. Bumrah tightened the pressure and Klassen wanted to release it with Pandya over Pant medical attention slowed down the momentum Pandya bowled it wide to make it difficult and mishit for Klassen.. not everything goes according to the plan all the time..but one has to take steps..and not just wait for things to happen.. and it did happen..

Yup we've been snake-bitten over the last decade. Be it tosses, rain, team selections, decisions at the toss etc., everything that could go wrong went wrong for us. Even Dhawan's injury in 2019 WC and Bumrah's absence in WT20 2022 impacted us big time. India really deserved some luck for once and in fact we need the rub of green go our way for the next 4-5 tourneys for it to even out. rollingstoned 1

A chase that could have been won in singles on a large ground. I know India with a long tail could do exactly the same botch up job (like they did against west indies last year). What happened there? Nope they have become a better side since advent of SA20. I think they will be serious contenders for CT and would likely replace English side as biggest threat. Gollum 1
vvvslaxman Posted July 2, 2024 Author Posted July 2, 2024 I think RCB is probably even worse as they were up against Ben Cutting, Bipul sharma, Barinder sran . Batsmen were Kohli, ABDV, RAhul, Shane watson. The Hound, Gollum, rollingstoned and 3 others 4 1 1

We had IPL as well for over a decade now but still couldn’t handle the pressure of finals. We lost over 7 finals ? We were lucky it was SA and they did what they do. Edited July 2, 2024 by gattaca

Interestingly, they didn't attack Hardik as well until the last over. They simply played out the 17th over which Hardik bowled. They chickened out after Klaasem fell to Hardik first ball of that over. That was the game changer. They should have just played on fearlessly after Klaasen's wicket given that only 26 runs were needed then.

The pitch was assisting fast bowlers specially reverse swing in play. People unnecessarily attribute the chokers tag when big match preassure can get to any team. So many matches were lost in IPL with teams requiring run a ball in the last 5 overs.

Suryas catch tilted the match in Indias favor. Imagine that being 6, SA would have only required 10 off 5 balls. In an otherwise great captaincy by rohit, bowling axar against klasen and axar going for 24 runs is not a great move. Hardik was under utilized with one over still left BacktoCricaddict, rollingstoned and Ultimate_Game 3
