Everywhere it is written he hails from a Bengali family. Sure he may have been born in U'khand, like how Bumrah was born in Guj.

This is why we never progress as a country. He is doing well representing entire India but people are worried about which state and region he is from. Why does that matter?

Actually he does, I was sure he was when I first saw him even without seeing his surname. Have bengali friends who look like him and one of them was even a state level badminton player.

I guess both his father's and his upbringing is from uttarakhand. His mother is also from there...food, water , air, terrain etc. more influence from hills...so I would say 80-90% uttarakhandi...

 

Not to say Bengalis are less.. there was a good looking and strong (beat everyone in arm wrestling) Bengali guy brought up in Delhi who was in my batch in college who got 100%ile in CAT...so basically an all-rounder. Bengali are fantastic in music, singing....but most Bengalis would agree that they currently lack in fitness and sports.

One good thing about bengali culture is they always encourage their kids to go into extra curricular activities like singing, music, dancing and also sports like table tennis, badminton etc. and people who do have a natural talent for it
