iran, jamaica, nz etc are good in a few sports but world class in all of them.

 

we are good in a lot of sports but like 5th-6th-7th best in the world in a lot. thats why we are better than those countries in cwg asiad but not olympics.

 

eventually a time will come when we will be top 3 in the cluster of sports we are 5-6-7 in the world (badminton, archery, shooting ,wrestling, boxing) and then the number of medals will increase exponentially.

That’s how far behind we are.

I have never met anyone who told me they wanted to pick up rowing , let alone wanting to represent India in rowing at olympics. Am sure not one person on this forum has any different experience than me and even if by some luck we do meet someone who wanted to pick up rowing I would not know how to get them started in India. 

 

Yet 25yr old Balraj is representing all of us in rowing at Paris. Let's celebrate what these people have achieved. Don't forget our superstars who get every thing needed took 13yrs to win a title in a sport which has 5 elite teams.

Sad to see that only Many has qualified for the finals so far. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. We have a lot of shooters. I am sure a couple will medal for sure. The rifle teams are quite strong. Pity the mixed team didn't qualify for the top 4. They are usually pretty consistent.

Rowing, swimming, cycling, fencing are sports where even the infrastructure is not there. Will take a while to medal there.

 

Over the next 15-20 years should consolidate wrestling, boxing, shooting, badminton, archery, athletics + hockey and cricket to give us 25-30 medals including 4-5 golds.

 

and hopefully in a bunch of new sports we will be at the level we are in the above sports now (table tennis, squash, tennis look the best chances cause india has achieved stuff here no matter how tiny). Swimming, cycling etc india don’t even medal at asiad/cwg.

Seriously is he not playing singles. The atp site says that Nadalovic for 2nd round. Nadal did well at Bastad beating the usual mop of players but failed in the finals losing to Borges who registered his first ATP cup win at 27. Djokovic himself is coming off of operation and looked shoddy at the Wimbledon final. If it does happen, the second round meetup would be an aging grandpa level match up with all the experience and skillset along with injuries and a drop in pace and stamina due to aging. Since its on clay, I think it will still hold up but brain farts are possible at this age. See Federer at this age.

Is it just me or has Jio coverage of the Olympics been horrible? None of the Indian events in shooting, qualifiers have been shown.

Really? Shooting is a relatively high profile event in the Olympics. Coverage should've been there.

They normally only show the finals - they don't show the qualifications
