Vinod Kambli unable to walk - shocking footage

I think right now ex indian cricketers can make good money. You have so many domestic leagues going on in India where you can become commentator/analyst/coach and earn good money. Sachin in fact got him a job as a mentor at his academy in Nerul but Kambli left it because he found Nerul too far too travel.

No money can sustain if you don't have a means to keep it flowing.

On top of it his carefree lifestyle.

He needed to get into media, he is colorful, I don't know if he has voice for it or not.

Unlucky guy, he deserved more chances in test cricket than he got.He was better than Ganguly to me.

He was indeed very talented...I distinctly remember Sachin fighting for his inclusion with the selectors against Sidhu.

But he never kept his weight in check and was unable to run and field properly..I am talking about 1997-1998 when he must be 25-26 years old.

Look at Shaw in current era..he is as old as Gill but looks 35+, Kambli became same.

I agree, but we have to understand them too.Just like Kambli , Shaw has been told all his life that you are going to be great and when they get dropped, they are not sure what they have to do next. The least they can do is keep their fitness but not everyone is motivated to do the hard yards.

Laxman Sivaramkrishnan was talking once, after he got dropped from Indian team then Ranji team.He was still 22 or 23 no education to get any job.No money, no future, that is where India cements and N Srinivasan helped him.

Gave a him a job and  he got into media  now he is okay. Not many players have god fathers like Siva .

People see the glitz and glamour of the selected players who made it but there are 1000s of players who have worked equally hard but don't have anything to show for in their lives. It is not just cricket, it is all sports.

Absolutely.

While his current state saddens me. He emerged in a talent starved era and just needed to be consistent enough to stay on the team.

He had the backing of the Mumbai clique, his closest buddy and best Indian batter in the side. Circumstances couldn't get any better.

That he didn't become an all time great is a travesty for which he carries a majority of the blame in my opinion.

Was dropped too quickly though

He was doing well recently. Had given up alcohol and was doing therapy. But a few months I heard he was drinking again :((

27 and cannot walk. What condition is he diagnosed with?

Can't recall actually. Probably just numbness in the legs.

Kambli’s international career would probably have never started if he was born in the IPL era.

he couldn’t handle the 90s, imagine all the IPL parties and temptations available in this era.

He would probably be one of those who would be picked on talent very early and then fade away after 2-3 seasons.

i feel bad for him but I am assuming it’s his own doing. Either ways good luck to him. Dont think treatment expenses will be a problem though. All Sachin has to do is a phone call to Ambanis.

Kambli's technique against fast bowlers was found wanting and the BCCI honchos who disliked his off field antics got just the opportunity that they were looking for.

In the meantime Ganguly and Dravid stepped up their performances and the door was shut on Kambli forever, probably even Manjerakar.

Exactly it was due to off field antics. He still ended up with 55+ avg.

Prithvi Shaw is similar. Perhaps he'd have earned stardom in IPL

Indeed, he could've done much better than he has. So far he has been the quintessential mental midget who pisses his chances away. He may still have a good run left in him, if he cuts out the crap and starts concentrating on the game.

He had some who were rooting for him when he sauntered into the IPL; while some (including me) saw shades of Kambli in him behaviorally. Unfortunately for his sake he proved the latter group's aspersions to be true.

Kambli not able to handle the pace bowling while true but he was not alone who could not handle fast bowling in India team.

Azharuddin was awful in handling fast bowling, so was Ganguly and to some extent Dravid was also unable to handle fast bowling.

He was certainly better batsman than Ganguly anyday. One series where he had difficulty handling fast bowlers cannot be enough to kick a guy with his stats out.

Fricking Kris Srikanth played more tests than Kambli and he captained India to boot.

If IPL was there then Kambli would have played lot more tests. Drinking or partying does not make any player bad.

In Kambli's case, he balloned up as well. Became a fatty. Fielding too perished and he has to be hidden on the field, imagine that someone needs to be hidden in 90's, how bad he actually became.

Indian Cricket in general is not in favour of "fat" players..specially those who are young and yet to established themselves.

Ramesh Powar, Amit Mishra all suffered the same fate.

Rohit lost the control as well, but he was by then an established player.

I agree, he harmed himself. Mohinder Amarnath got kicked out many times from the team but he forced selectors to pick him by scoring bucketful runs for Delhi.

Getting dropped team cannot be end of international careers.Going back to domestic cricket is no shame and working your way back is sign of hard working player who has self belief.VVS did it, Ganguly did it.

Rohit benefited from the fact he was a permanent fixture in odis. If he was not core member of whiteball team, who knows what would have happened.

That is where BCCI needs to guide these young players.

At the time, among all the other batters, Kambli was the only one flinging stuff around. He stood out like a sore thumb.

It was an easy decision for the selectors.

Things may have been different in this day and age.
