emergency style danda is needed on the indian Janta... they have absolute zero civic and hygiene sense- which is causing harm to India's image on the global stage. Doesnt matter if your economy is 1Trillion but if people spit everywhere and dont have basic hygiene then its a massive issue.

 

And Modi wants to host Olympics and Fifa WC here

You can't make this work well in a water scarce country like India, while it's true that hygiene continues to be a big problem in India the civic facilities & lack of proper resources is an even bigger issue! You can't expect US like hygiene with probably a 10th or less fresh water resources per capita.

I understand but this issue is definitely not due to water scarcity. They were just lazy.

For just this one yes it looks like it. One thing which isn't mentioned is whether there were any issues with the taps in/around kitchen? No one in their right mind would do this unless there was an issue with water supply/taps etc. Even the dirtiest people we see around India usually do this only when they're forced to, like say food stalls near open sewers/garbage dumps.

Imagine Bihar with 15 years of rule under Lee Kuan Yew instead of Lalu Prasad Yadav from 1990 to 2005..... what would be the difference? Granted Lee was not a "democrat" like Lalu but would it matter to the ordinary Bihari?

I think it's more due to lack of "ownership" & "responsibility" than water scarcity.

 

Ahmedabad which has a seasonal river like Sabarmati has developed it's river banks beautifully, while New Delhi despite having a Himalayan river like Yamuna has given no care of it.

Bihar was in a terminal decline even before Lalu. Communism hit Bihar to a large extent before Lalu even became mainstream. Dalmiyanagar's decline due to union strikes started in 70's itself, something which became a theme for most of the Salim-Javed's movies.

 

Lalu aggrevated those problem a thousand times and made Bihar a national joke.

We should aspire for these lofty ideals like Liberty and freedom when we become a developed country. Being dirty and poor brings whole lot of issues into play.

Do you think dictators magically **** gold from their behinds? Plenty of dictatorships started poor and ended poorer. Our biggest problem is lack of accountability from the leadership which will only get worse under a dictator

Sure plenty of dictatorships have failed but having China as our neighbour will keep us on our toes and I expect our leaders to do the right thing. Anyway we are already living in semi totalitarian states with phones being the primary surveillance devices, CCTV cameras in every corner of the streets and the government control on ordinary citizens will keep increasing with advances in new technologies.

Shambolic.  Doesn't BCCI have no say at all about certifying a stadium whether it is fit for international matches? BCCI should own that responsibility if they want to host neutral matches. It is a total mess now regardless of Afghanistan's blunder due to financial reasons. Going forward better sense should prevail.
