G_B_ Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Basically not good enough against the new ball. This pitch has shown once you get past the new ball you can cash in. Need a Che pujara who can soak up 50 to 60 balls at 3.

No one is ready to dig in and see off tough spells It's been an issue throughout the world, but more so with good/strongish batting lineups in LO ricket for an awfully long time! I'd argue it started with us in Eng 2011, then Oz vs SA same year, heck SA as well. Eng vs Pak, albeit aided by Chuckmal, in 2012, NZ around the same time. Basically if you have the game to attack that's your fallback these days more & more, not defense - this is why team's lose more & are drawing way less than they used to! So if you think we need to play out overs we will not only need 2 Pujara's, or Dravid, but also need our chumps to drop their LO game completely in tests which of course is not happening Edited October 20, 2024 by R!TTER
goose Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 lots of players can go defensive for a while. but they can get out too and look wasteful. the ego comes in and the gambler eventually kicks in. only two players in my lifetime look less likely to get out the more defensive they get. dravid and pujara. it's a very rare thing.

Plus a test in SL in 2015, SA tests 2015, Bangalore test 2017, SL test Edens 2017, SA 3rd test 2018, Adelaide 1st match 2018 Vijay, Rahane were also good Yeah talking of current Pujara only. MCG pitch had bounce but not same movement. He was always suspect v swing

Dravid is far ahead of Pujara too in terms of handling swing

FC is good identifier in that

Other batters made merry without this too. This is needed mostly in swing conditions where he didnt last long anyway. We need other batsmen now with similar approach and technique

Southee scored because we allowed him to by some poor catching and captaincy. Jadeja has always been a support batter, never does he deliver in pressure by himself. R!TTER Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Pu-ball is also definitely ahead in handling spin!

However in Eng/NZ/SA we definitely missed someone who could see off spells. Pujara too had only one good series in SA

Jadeja's game is built on holding an end and allowing others to attack. Even in Eng series, he scored ton from 30-3 but with same approach. Very less chances such players end up topping run scoring charts

Vk1 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I think we can handle only one - either swing or bounce. When both come together as a package we will lose the game unless there is an exceptional individual performance.
