This is a simple case of dada giri and arm twisting which as an Indian fan I don't endorse. If BCCI has a problem of security, why can't they sit out of this tournament and let Pak carry on with other teams? There is an ICC event every year anyway and its not like missing out on CT will be a huge deal. You guys need to understand from Pak pov as well, they got an ICC event after 30 years and BCCI is taking it away from them with pure bullying. This is not fair IMO. SA sounds like a decent venue. Jab US, China, Russia aur western countries karein toh diplomacy, jab India kare toh dadagiry. This is how the world runs. Every country looks after their own interest. Take a look at Ukraine. Western world hung them out to dry despite treaties signed in 90s for Ukraine to give up their nuclear arsenal in return for protection from western nations. Look what happened? Similarly in cricket we all know how things worked before India became a financial superpower in 2000s. We ere an afterthought to likes of Eng and Aus. Fact is we don't owe anyone anything and need to look after our own interests. And it's in our best interests not to travel to Pak. Simple as that. Call that dadagiru or whatever, to me it's looking after our interests. And I hope BCCI would've looked after our interests a bit more by scheduling at least one of the WTC finals in India, and not given hosting rights for CT (or any other tourney) to Pak. We'll understand Pak's POV when they understand the damage that was done during 26/11 and the parliament attacks and stop state sponsored terrorism. We all saw nothing has changed on that end when you listen to those bigots term India as "dushman mulk" and even the most liberal of their ilk talk about "reading namaz in front of hindus" or "islam ki jeet", "hinduon ki zehniyat" etc. Nothing from our side unless likes of Dawood Ibrahim and perperators of 26/11 are given sanctuary there just like Osama Bin Laden was. tapandrun Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 (edited) ICC should look into the issue that bcci is having in traveling to pak, if those are deemed as ok/legit and per the protocols then ask anyother team if they want to replace Ind.There is no point is asking bcci to forfeit their games. And full CT 25 should be in Pak. Its not good for other teams to travel back and forth for just 1 match. pcb should go on with the event as usual, why do they have any issue if Ind plays or not, Ind not traveling should be okay to them and if pcb boycott the event then icc should take appropriate call on this. Teams have forfeit/withdrawn from certain ICC matches and the event have carried on as usual in the past too same should happen this time and everytime going forward too. There are only 8-10 boards who are playing cricket this issue will come-up twice in every 10 events, so looking into this there should be strong longterm solution to this. Can not be that every icc event is disturbed by this. Host should have right to complaint about team pulling out, teams who are pulling out should have appropriate reasons. If host tries to pull out because certain team is not coming should be held accountable too. Edited November 12, 2024 by tapandrun

jigjig Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 PCB is not willing to go ahead without India. If they could, then would have by now or I hope they take a decision to do so. Some desperation on their side to want India. Pak should just go on with the tournament without India. Replace India with a second Pakistan team..give it blue colors. Great opportunity to make a B team play and then can also do " beach mein nanga naach " after defeating the Pak B Blue team

In fact if Indian team goes their and they successfully host the event, it would be a fantastic PR for them, and there is no way Indian government would allow that. The is basically a geopolitical move, it's a soft weapon for India, which the govt is using, and I don't see anything wrong with it, and to all this who keep saying don't mix politics with sports, there is no fault of common people, well what was the fault of Russian people and athletes ? Why ban them from Olympics for what Russian govt was doing ? Fact is what US is doing with Olympics, India is doing with Cricket. You will have have people preaching whether in geopolitics or in real life to do the right thing, we as humans love to preach, we love the concept of an ideal world, but when the time comes to act, what we say and what we do are often two different things, we do what's best for us, there is no right or wrong, no black and white. This is by far the best post I’ve read from an Indian perspective on this topic—thank you for having the courage to speak openly. That said, I wonder if it’s really fair to compare this situation with the US/Russia and the Olympics, especially considering the world was aligned with the US, while India stands alone. Ten years ago, India had strong global support. But today, in the cricketing world, India stands isolated. What kind of PR will this create when teams, fans, and commentators from around the world are gathered in Pakistan, while India alone plays in the UAE? It would only highlight the absurdity of sticking to an outdated policy.

Well, the world was principally aligned on ignoring/isolating Russia. However, in this case, India’s stance is isolated and doesn’t have broad support. India will be alone in UAE. How does that look from an optics standpoint? As for “apprehending”, I am 100% with you that Pakistan must apprehend any and every single person responsible for 26/11 and terror attacks in India. In the same vein, India must apprehend those responsible for killing 40 Pakistani nationals in Samjohta express terror attack. It’s not fair or sufficient to release suspects because of “lack of evidence”. But Indians think their intelligence agencies are “nice” and aren’t involved in any trouble in the Pakistan, and don’t have any role in terror attacks that take place in Pakistan, when reality is more complicated and nuanced than what BJP controlled Indian media will have you believe and repeat here.

What I recall is that Vajpayee sponsored "Aman ki Asha" and we got Kargil in return followed by attack on Indian parliament. India toured Pak in early to mid 2000s and invited Pak players in IPL. We got "Hunduon ki zehniyat" and 26/11 in return. Never again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. In fact India already has been way more lenient. IMO all cricketing tours should've been stopped after the Parliament attack in early 2000s. To me that was even a bigger incident than 26/11, and we should've drawn a line in the sand then. There'll be some fools in India who'll be eager to preach "let bygones be bygones" or "let's start afresh". But we've seen majority of Pak folks think when they utter crap like "Islam ki jeet" or "hinduon ke beech namaaz" or "dushman mulk". And none of these were uttered by ignorant people but by the so called educated folks. I'm glad majority of Indians don't want anything to do with Pak coz the reality is more like harboring known terrorists like Dawood Ibrahim or 26/11 perpetrators than what they say. There's a reason Osama Bin Laden had settled down in Pakistan as it's the safe haven for terrorists, and I for one wouldn't like Indian team to tour such a country.

The big assumption in your post hinges on “the majority of Pakistani folks” making hateful or ludicrous statements. What survey or research supports the idea that this is a majority view? In Pakistani politics and elections, India-bashing isn’t a common theme. In fact, leaders of major political parties often emphasize building friendly relations with India in their rallies, as that’s what the public wants to hear and vote for—you can easily look this up on Google or YouTube. On the other hand, one could argue that Pakistan-bashing is a central theme in BJP’s politics.

You are confusing BCCI with Indian govt, if it was upto BCCI they would send the team, in fact they would even send the team for Bilaterals forget ICC events. Why would Indian govt care about PR or Optics for a cricket tournament, this is not going to hurt them geopolitically with any country because no country would care. As far as US is concerned, no not all countries are aligned with US on Russia/Ukraine, Two things, US does what it wants do, can anyone do anything about it, even if they want to ? The same US has no problem with Isreal killing Women and Children in Palestine, in fact they are happy supplying weapons to Isreal. How many countries are willing to stand against US, even the most influential countries in ME like SA and UAE, do they really care or have the ability to do something ? Second no one cared when US went on rampage after 9/11, when they bombed the hell out of Iraq, most countries raising their voice in Russia/Ukraine is not because civilians are dying, they are making a noise is because this time the civilians are white. Look at India's issues with Canada, Indian govt doesn't care about Canada, because Canada has no leverage, they are more or less irrelevant, but Indian have has no issues cooperating with with US in the investigation. The same goes for what China is doing with Uyghurs, does even Pakistan raise its voice against it ? This is the problem with South Asia we are too deep with corruption and countless no. of issues that stops us from development, If Pakistan did not give so much powers to Military and ISI and allowing terrorism to fester, thinking it won't hurt you, forget Cricket it's a small thing in the bigger picture, there are deeper issues like economic collapses wouldn't have happened, and nobody can push you over. The fact is, this is how the world works, the more powerful you are the more you can get away with things. In an ideal world ICC would go ahead without India, but in reality that would never happen.
