Indian team for 2nd D/N test at Adelaide

Recommended Posts

Since now barring an absolute miracle we should win the 1st test, my thoughts went to who would be playing in the 2nd day night test. With Fatman coming back he is likely to come in place of paddikal, don't know what the status with Gill is, also might need to play 2 spinners.

My XI

YBJ

Fatman

KL

Kohli

Pant

NKR

Jaddu

Ash

Rana

Bumrah

Siraj

Play Jaddu and Ashwin in place of Jurel and Sundar, batting will be more or less same with much improved bowling.

Why on earth do we need two spinners in a Pink ball Test? This ain't Ahmedabad, man. Heck I think we should go in with an all pace attack if you ask me.

Jaiswal

Rahul

Rohit

Kohli

Jurel

Pant

NKR

Harshit

Akashdeep

Bumrah

Siraj

It also depends on how Siraj bowls tomorrow. If he fizzles out again completely,  I would bring in Prasidh inplace of him if shami isn't still match fit.

Batting is thin here and we would still bowl 2 sessions in day light so we need spin.

In all probability India will say same team except Rohit comes in for Padikkal. :p:

The following is what I would prefer.

Jaiswal

KL Rahul

Rohit Sharma

Kohli

Pant

Nitish Reddy ( Needs to bat up as he is not bowling)
R Jadeja

Sundar

H Rana

Akashdeep

Bumrah

There is really no batting loss in between Jurel, Padikkal, Reddy, Jadeja, Sundar .. basically same expectations. Can add Rahul to the list but he is actually stronger theoretically. Still not sold on KL Rahul but really the options are not too many. Since he tried his best and played a good hand, he gets to stay. The only batters who walk in to the team now are Jaiswal and Pant.

Very important that Sharma does not open.  Gan*du  always gives opposition quick wicket and opens up the collapse. KL and Jaiswal can get out too but they will not go out of the way to throw their wickets. Padikkal is an easy drop.

Need Siraj to go even with his few wickets. Way too inconsistent and time to end his automatic walk in to the team.

Will take Jadeja instead of Jurel to add bowling depth without losing any batting. I think Sundar and Jadeja should both play. Jurel will get his spot when Rohit/Virat leave.

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

3. Rohit ( as he won't leave himself out )

4. Kohli

5. Pant

6. Jurel

7. Nitish

8. Washington / Jadeja

9. Harshit

10. Bumrah

11. Prasidh / Siraj

.... Assuming Gill is unfit.  He replaces Jurel if fit.

.... Will bring in Prasidh and Jadeja if Siraj and Washington are unimpressive tomorrow. Otherwise they stay.

As much as I love Washi, I think continuing with this bowling attack with him as 4th bowling option (I dont consider Nitish as anything more than 6th bowler) is a big risk.

Pink ball tests have big periods where its totally batting friendly conditions.  I only see Washi as 5th bowler right now in these conditions, unless he shows something special tomorrow.  I would only pick Washi if we are replacing Jurel with him.and I'd pick Jaddu or 4th seamer at #8.

Sundar + Jadeja gives the team a offspin and SLA option i.e. take the bowl away from both RH and LH Batters.  And both are bonafide batters.  I'd go with this team as well.

India has decided to go to the extra batting depth formula. So basically same team and Padikkal and Jurel replaced by Gill and Rohit. In adelaide you dont need 2 spinners. its a flat deck.Ball will seam under lights in evening session. and Gill will heal in next 5 days. If he is not then I might be tempted to play Jurel instead of padikkal.

My team ..don't want Rohit to play..in tests..his style of batting has no place in tests. But he is captain..so he plays. Assuming. Gill is injured

Jaiswal

Rohit - he opens as we have KLR as backup if KLR goes..Rohit is sitting duck anyways

KLR

Kohli

Pant

Jadeja

Sundar/Ashwin

Nkr

Harshit

Bumrah

Akashdeep

We don't need two spinners..we need one spinner but just think we can use Jadeja batting...I think shami or Akashdeep would do well with pink ball.

you aren't going to get Aussies collapsing to Boom every single innings.

I think you're forgetting that not all pink ball sessions are 'under lights' with ball darting about. That's only some of them. Rest of the time it can become a road. And with some bad luck, India could be in a situation where they have to bowl 100+ overs. Doing that in the 2nd test of a 5 test series, with 3 bowlers and Sundar+Nitish is suicide.

Recency bias of being bowled out for 36 will be omnipresent in mind of TM. They dont want to be humiliated again. So if they win the perth test their primary motive will be to survive Adelaide under lights and thats where the long batting order formula will come to play in their strategy.

Last part is the key..Sundar and Nitish are at best batting all rounder and only one of them should play for their batting and being the fifth bowler...I would play Jadeja or ashwin
