Almost all commies unanimously agreed he was one of the unluckiest bowler.  Ishant had that happent o him in 2007 series. Same way Shami in England.  There are so many bowlers that were far worse than Akash deep.

Agreed. Apart from his consistent line, he was also able to reverse the ball which is a skill which is far more valuable in the bowling lineup thanthe extra 2-3 kph some people here seem to obsess about . I for one am pretty happy with what he has shown considering this is only his second test overseas. People are assuming that a player whose experience is limited to Ithe ndian domestic circuit is magically going to show up in alien conditions as the fully formed product. I am sure he will do well in England and needs to be given opportunities wherever possible to help develop him into part of the future pace pack for test matches.

He's already 28 though. And first tour can't be an excuse. Siraj,Bumrah, Ishant were better on their first  tours. Even Harshit did well in Perth.

He's just not suited to these conditions with his reduced pace.

What reduced pace are you talking about ? He was bowling close to 135k throughout.  That is perfectly fine. You are not going to find many Indian bowlers who can bowl 20 controlled overs in the Australian summer heat and sustain a 140K speed all day.

Rana bowled faster in his first spells but ran out of gas quickly and started spraying the ball which Head and others piled into. There is no perfect bowler coming out of India who is going to be a Bumrah or Shami Clone on their first tour to Australia. Akashdeep is the best I can see as an acceptable option. Rana was getting criticised after Adelaide but now that he is not playing he is suddenly the messiah. Siraj has not progressed beyond his first tour either.

I don't know where to access the data, but hes definitely slower than what he was on debut. Maybe @Nikhil_cric can help.

In Aus we need bowlers who can hit the deck hard and get bounce. Harshit did that better than Akash.

Rana is younger so atleast there is hope he can learn. Akash doesnt have much time.

That is not surprising. On his debut he was bowling in winter weather in Ranchi and only bowled in one innings - his total workload was 19 overs for the entire match. Here he has bowled 43 overs in this match alone. The temperature on the first day when India were bowling at melbourne was 40 degrees. Plus he bowled 35 overs in the previous game of which 30 were in a single innings. It is pretty obvious any bowler's speeds will be lower in these tempratures and workloads.

I agree Rana should be backed too but they both should be part of a pool - they have their strengths and weaknesses and Rana is obviously younger but an accurate 28 year old pace bowler who can operate with control will be a useful part of the group for use where required. Rana seems to be strong but seems to struggle with his stamina and quickly falls away the longer he has to bowl so is more useful where short, sharp bursts are the strategy.

Akashdeep looks to swing the ball with a straight seam. Needs to learn the wobble seamer with the new ball .  With his accuracy, that's the best we can get out of him

Rana is quicker and taller but it's a bit of a lottery because he is the least accurate of our bowlers.

Did you never watch Pankaj Singh in 2011 England tour or unadkat on South Africa tour? Or abhimanyu Mithun grunting?

he's better than this trio, though pankaj was selected after his pomp

He is a very unlucky bowler ,must say .

He bowled really well today and also in Gabba test but with 0 luck.

However that being said ,he is too 1 dimensional, bowls a similar trajectory throughout, doesn't use the crease much while delivering and also his fitness/stamina is in question ,huffs and puffs in the latee spells

Pankaj singh was just horrible

he played far too late beyond his peak. same thing happened to kuruvilla. likewise, unadcutter was played too early.

they are both mediocre, so even at their best, they would still be poor
