Hypocrite Agarkar is teaming up with fatboy to screw us further. Aggy used yo talk big before becoming selectors and when chokli used to be captain . And now doing same politics by joining up with fat boy which shastri+chokli used to do. loose he witll not criticise the failed players rather coaching staffs like bgt but somehow if we luckily win it he will give all credit to selector Aggy and captain Fatty, such a chameleon this old man is.

He always seems happy with the team selected.

We are unfortunate that BCCI runs the Indian Cricket on superstars and not on team's performance.
Gill is a talented batter, but there is no doubt Jaiswal is leagues above him at the moment. Plus Gill's ability to captain his team is questionable.
Seems BCCI has earmarked Gill as the next superstar of Indian Cricket and are doing every bit possible to ensure he gets all the media attention and focus, and they won't let anyone take attention from him until project Gill fails badly (BCCI is always a reactive board and never proactive).

Yup. He wanted Harshit earlier but was overruled. He wanted Samson and denied again. Didn't want Gill as VC but Agarkar-Rohit duo thought otherwise. Don't think Gambhir wants over the hill has beens like Rohit and Kohli as well but can't do anything.

 

Unless the selection process is revamped, there's not much a coach can do. Don't think Rohit should be able to overrule a coach else what's the point of the coach? Maybe a captain can have a say in 1 or at max 2 decisions but for the captain to overrule coach for every selection and decision is idiotic.

I know Iyer has his problems against quality pace attacks on difficult pitches but he might do well in UAE, he is not an unworthy selection, did better than Gill in 2023 wc.

I have a theory about samson's exclusion. Samson recently did well as opener in ODIs. Essentially a potential threat for Rohit as opener. Kishan lost his contract. Never backed in this ODI format.  Another threat for Rohit's spot. But Pant is not a threat. If Pant were an opener he probably would have been dropped.

If the coach-captain duo keep on overruling the coach, every coach will be there to simply collect a paycheck. Coach should be in charge off the field decisions, and the captain should have his say on the field. But currently that's not the case. Rohit has absolute power and no coach can do anything. Looks like BCCI wants a "yes man" instead of a coach.

So why doesn't Gambhir resign and tell all this openly? If he's ready to be a yes man for the money he's equally responsible. He's not some damsel in distress.

The coach's role is not to demand certain players so there is no question of him being overruled. His role is to manage the team he is given and also manage the staff of coaches to produce performances. Team selection is the selector's job and the selecting the playing XI is the captain's responsibility.

If that were not the case, every coach would have an easy get out..blame any lack of performance on not getting specific players and there would be no mechanism to hold them accountable. A good coach should be able to produce performances out of any team he is provided from the talent pool available in India. Under Gambhir, the performance has taken a sudden and alarming dip and you'd have to put your head in the sand to pretend the reason is simply because XYZ player was not provided when the new coach asked for him.

Only genuine challenge to rohit's spot is jaiswal, thats the reason he did get his debut till now. If he plays and gets some runs will directly challenge rohit's spot. 

jaiswal right now does nt challenge gill's spot because bcci has  been looking at gill as all format captain. the thing that derailed it is abhishek's batting style and his ability to contribute with the bat and ball. and ppl have started noticing that gill is no good in test as well. 

 

Assuming sky will be t20i captain till this wc cycle and there are chances that he can even lose that too. During Zim tour was hearing(could be roumors) that they can ask abhishek to play in lower order for his hitting ability and gill to open.

 

The reason for sanju's exclusion from odi is v.simple selectors and bcci is trying to spread out players important to various ipl teams into various formats. Sanju plays t20is,

Pant plays test and odi KL plays odis. Its done so that marquee players of various franchises keeps some sort of place in Ind intnl. side. The only guy who seems to be at wrong side of it is pandaya.
