India is going through transition period in the fast bowling department

India always finds batsmen somehow. But the fast bowling transition is new for us. Bumrah will be selectively playing for us. Shami is almost certainly out soon. Siraj's shelf life may be coming to an end. Right now we have two promising youngsters. Arshdeep and Rana.  What about the rest? We need to bring more youngsters into the set-up.  It is a pity that I can name only two guys.  Yash Dayal, Vyshak, Kamboj, Deshpande all these guys need a run. Currently fast bowling contract has the following players

Akash Deep

Vijaykumar Vyshak

Umran Malik

Yash Dayal

Vidwath Kaverappa

Look at NZ fast bowling. They are rolling out fresh batch of fast bowlers who all look decent enough. Tall they generate bounce.

There are 38 teams in Ranji Trophy since last few years. So hopefully, more pacers can rise up the ranks than before.

Till then I think Jasprit, Harshit, Siraj, Arshdeep, Akash, Umran etc will hold the fort.

We need strong fast bowlers in the Umesh,Ishant mould who can do heavy duty job in red ball cricket

Which can make life easier for Bumrah

Harshit needs to find his feet quickly provided he gets good amount of support particularly in red ball

Umran,Mayank(limited to t20s as of now)have to be in the mix ,to have proper variety in attack

Tyagi is well out of the scene now,if he makes a comeback that will do world of good to our pace bowling stocks

Bowling 4 overs in IPL vs sustained efforts over 20+ overs in Ranji is what should earn someone a fast bowling contract

Fast bowling is the only thing which I find wanting this edition of IPL. Not that there are no bright spots at allbut relative to even previous seasons It seems disappointing.

Ofc we only need 2-3 who we feel are high potential and to groom them properly with the right nutritional and biomechanical advice so that they stay clear of injuries and can sustain pace and zip. We have to get into habit of developing high quality bowlers which we hopefully will post Bumrah and Shami.

In the absence of that in the worst case scenario we have to go the England way and look to turn medium pace swing bowlers into competent batsmen who can contribute down the order. It's a much less preferable option.

India need to take a leaf out of NZ's textbook and develop format specialist bowlers.

Let's all accept the fact that our injury management system is pathetically poor and NCA is totally incapable of taking care of fast bowlers. Longer the format, higher are chances of injury.

Aside from the usual suspects of Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Harshit, Prasidh & Akashdeep.

Tests

Yudhvir

Gurnoor

Sen

For ODIs and T20s, we can pickup whoever is fit and in form. Courtesy of IPL we will keep on getting bowlers. Likes of Mayank, Tyagi, Yash Thakur, Vyshak, Kamboj, Kaverappa whoever is fit and in form can come in.

We’ve got 2 bowlers who are showing promise - Harshit and Prasidh.

Harshit has got the ingredients but needs to improve his areas.
Prasidh has shown improvements lately. Height plus decent pace is ideal for tests.

Now we need to include at least 2 more. Simarjeet Sen types. Not sure if they have the body or consistency yet but need bowlers of that kind. And pace needs to be up to 145 at least -  No compromises in a large cricket loving nation.

Mayank needs to be kept away from tests.
Umran if he builds a decent record in first class ( like at least play 10 games) can be tried if he shows promise. Although it seems that he too is prone to hip injuries.  So for now these two express bowlers can be kept to LOIs.

Prasidh and Saini have been disappointments. Couldn't take the step up.

Prasidh still has age on his side. Test match fitness is the main issue.

There is a need for clear directive from bcci to all state boards no matter what , they need to play young faster bowler.

Selectors /TM should create a list of bowler who they think are big potential bowlers and send it out to the respective boards and ask we need them to play as many matches possible. Else you are not getting any intnl quality faster bowlers, domestic teams prefers dibbly-dobbly pacers slower it comes slower it goes kind of bowler. Can not rely on domestic system to give you any faster bowler. Faster bowler plays 1-2 matches goes for runs and sits out for rest of the season.

Ind created this rut selecting bowlers like mukesh, unadakat, saini, rasik, sikaria, in Ind side, A tours, emerging cups. No one was a proper high potential bowler apart from rana.

Get the selected bowler to play matches which are telecasted and have speedo-meter.

Simarjeet, Sen, Pradish (do not think he has in him), Umran, Gurnoor, yudhvir, Tyagi (not sure if he will ever be injury free), Mukesh choudhary, Ashok sharma (have not see him that much but some pics here suggest he can go upto i145 kmh in 4 days game), Himanshu, Mayank, yash thakur

There should be a batch of 8-12 bowler ready by end of season for ind cap.

Then come T20i bowlers there should be separate group of t20i bowlers with wite-ball skills and try them there -- Mukesh kumar has t20i skill can bowl upto 140 kmph and bowl some yorker, Prince yadav showed some promise , but they need to be handy with the bat else they will never make it to the 1st playing 11  without weaken the team

Fast bowling contract means little. We have to observe who are getting actual chances.

Experienced ....

Bumrah .. Tests, ODIs, T20Is

Shami .. Tests, ODIs

Siraj .. Tests, maybe ODIs

New ....

Harshit .. Tests, ODIs, T20Is.

Arshdeep .. T20Is, ODIs

Prasidh .. Tests

Mayank .. T20Is.

Akashdeep .. Tests

One thing I like is that

....  4 of the 5 new pacers are tall.

....  and 3 of these 4 are hit the deck, bouncy pacers.

Harshit has the highest ceiling and potential among the new pacers.

@express bowling has mentioned above what I would have liked to post anyways..divinding the bowlers per format..

However I would like to add..that we should start looking to groom.. Yudhvir and Gurnoor..they are unpolished for now..but who knows if they work under some expert guidance..can give good results..as we dont want to overwork likes of Siraj..and need some injury covers too..

Not sure what Nehra ji did with Siraj and Prasidh but they are looking good atleast in IPL..there is some sting in their bowling..we should try to use his experience in NCA or whatever..if possible..

Only concern is that for ODIs if Bumrah is unfit, Harshit will be the only fast option in this list.

Most other teams are having multiple 145 plus bowlers now.

Bhumrah keeps getting injured

Shami is on last legs

Siraj is already declining

rana -- have been good so far

Arash -- donot think he can sustain pace 135+ kmph in odis

Pardish -- have been no improvement

Mayank-lets just not talked about him till he makes a comeback/recover for never ending injuries

Akash-- After 1st game does not looked the same bowler

Need a proper plan to get new bowlers, get them play fc and list a else, there is a difference between t20 bowlers's skill-set and test bowlers skill-set.

This IPL auction and playing 11s have shown the ipl teams does not want proper 140+kmph bowler are more likely to play 130 kmph bowlers with t20 skill-set- Rasik, Ashwini, Sandeep, that new Mi bowler can not recall the name.,prince etc. are the ones IPL are inclined towards
