We Need two proper batsman with compact defensive technique.

All the stroke players will play around them.

We don't need stroke players.

Easwaran and Sai Looks Good.

Gill should bat at 4 , Rahul at 5, Pant at 6 ,Reddy 7

Jaiswal

Easwaran

Sai

Gill

Rahul

Pant

Reddy

Kuldeep

Shami

Bumrah

Disagree with Gambhir there. The way the formats have changed over the last few years, very few select players can play all the formats. In India I only see Bumrah and Jaiswal who're all-format players though BCCI is hell bent on making Gill one despite Gill being a misfit in T20s. The only other player I can think of as an all-format player alongside the two I mentioned is Iyer. He should ideally be the captain for white ball formats, and has the game for Tests too. I would take a leap of faith and make Iyer the all format captain than Gill.

NKR is not bowling for Srh due to some injury. Should bring back Thakur

That means NKR won't go to England as he won't be picked only as a batsmen.

if he is a bit unfit , his batting will also get hit,

Arshdeep in,Iyer out according to reports. NKR  has to be fit to bowl otherwise no point picking him.

If NKR isnt fit...then give opportunity to Raj Bawa in the A tour.

He can bat at 7/8...is a proper bowler and not a filler like Bawa.

Paddy's lack of footwork will be a problem in England...where you need decisive footwork.

Else he will keep on edging the deliveries to slips.

Not sure about Nitish reddy. He had an horrible IPL with bat and not bowling as well.
If we put Jadeja, NKR, Washington at No.6 to No.8 like we did in BGT, we will again be doing a grave mistake.

If you don't have allrounders, just pick specialists.

Jaiswal and KL can open
Sai/Easwasarwan can be new no 3.
Gill is a lockin at No. 4
Washington at 5- as specialist bat who can bowl occasionaly

Willing to back Iyer or Nair at No. 6
Pant at No. 7

Jadeja at No. 8 ( speclist spinner who bat at No. 8)
Bumrah
Siraj/Akashdeep
Harshit/Arshdeep

I don't know who the other options are in domestic for the middle order

Now that the two diggajs have retired, who should be the captain and replacements for RoKo?

I feel that we need a old-school #4 player like Pujara or Rahane back in the fold in Tests

Jaiswal, Sai Sudarshan, Gill, Nair/Rahane, KL/Sarfaraz, Jurel/NKR., Jadeja, Yadav, Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Prasidh, Harshit

I am forgetting Pant for now. Bumrah has to lead, Gill is too immature for Test cricket.

Google AI says:

The Indian cricket team's squad for the England series will be finalized soon, with several changes expected due to the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. While the exact squad composition is yet to be announced, Shubman Gill is likely to lead the team, and Jasprit Bumrah could be the vice-captain. Other key players expected in the squad include Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami.

Key Players and Potential Changes:
  • Shubman Gill: Likely to lead the team after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

  • Jasprit Bumrah: Could be the vice-captain and lead the pace attack.

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal: A key batter, potentially opening the innings.

  • Sai Sudharsan: A potential opener, also considered for a spot in the India A squad.

  • KL Rahul: In contention for the No. 4 batting position and potentially to open the innings.

  • Ravindra Jadeja: A key all-rounder, especially with his proven record in England.

  • Mohammed Shami: A crucial fast bowler.

  • Karun Nair: Another player considered for a spot in the squad.

  • Nitish Kumar Reddy: A potential fast-bowling all-rounder.

  • Abhimanyu Easwaran: Likely to captain the India A squad and could be added to the senior squad.

  • Dhruv Jurel: A wicketkeeper-batsman, potentially part of the India A squad and later promoted to the senior team.

Gill might play at No.4 just for the optics and transfer of power.

Sachin -> Kohli -> Gill

Gill lacks footwork and too aggressive for #4. He's best suited for opening or #3.

You're right... But he has showed good grit and application in his test and Last A team appearance in Aus... So may be able to resist that urge to fish outside off stump

Alastir cook did fine even with lack of footwork ...

We will compete in England,  thanks to the retirement of lazy legends. Think Sai Sudharshan, Karun Nair have some county experience and that will help

Yes let's play our best batsman for last FIvE years in tests at no 7. Sometimes this forum is so obnoxious it's ridiculous.

Why is Jaiswal in A tour :dontknow:

All these are players whose IPL teams won't be in playoffs - Jaiswal (RR), Kishan, Nitish (SRH), Kamboj, Ruturaj (CSK), Thakur, Akashdeep (LSG), Harshit (KKR).

Karun, Mukesh (DC) are the only exceptions. Maybe it is a sign that DC won't make playoffs.. Lol

The rest are not in any IPL team.

Maybe Sai Sudarshan, Prasidh, Washington will join the A team after the IPL ends.
