BacktoCricaddict Posted June 27 Posted June 27 (edited) Siraj Natarajan Sundar Thakur Saini Not exactly world-beaters, but at that time, they were young and hungry with a TM that backed them. Thakur has regressed and aged. Kamboj, with his showing over the past 2 yrs, could've been groomed for this role but was not. Or Reddy, who has already shown his batting mettle. The blueprint is there - all it takes is clear definition of roles and proper mentorship. You don't need multiple Bumrahs. Same thing with Rana and others for the other roles. Once there is a group of guys established in the team, selectors are reluctant to prepare the next generation and rotate them in when necessary. Edited June 27 by BacktoCricaddict Lord and bowl_out 2
vvvslaxman Posted June 27 Posted June 27 Relatively young team is needed. Washed up bowlers with Tond is going to be useless. BacktoCricaddict 1
Gollum Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Saini got injured and didn't bowl much. Credit to the genius captain Rahane and to Bharat Arun for his bowling tactics that entire BGT. Bharat Arun is the biggest miss right now. express bowling, GoldenSun, Lone Wolf and 1 other 4
Number Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) I think it was all about maximising the potential of every bowler. They even threw a relatively new ball to Sundar who got us Smith's wicket. Because they understood he is better with the new ball. Edited June 28 by Number BacktoCricaddict, rollingstoned and Gollum 3
rkt.india Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Fluke happens. 9/10 times, Australia will smash that bowling attack to pieces. Suhaan, Chakdephatte, Adamant and 1 other 1 3

He was averaging 63 that time. In the ODI series before that he scored 2 60 ball 100s, back to back. Ashwin vs Smith starting from 2020 IPL till SCG was absolute cinema. Number 1

That is the problem.Gabba was once in a life time event. So assuming it to be a regular occurance is wrong. Reddy has shown no such mettle with ball. His bowling is not even passable and will be hammered on these flat pitches. Aussies are playing same set of bowlers for more than decade in all formats. It is not easy to find world class bowlers. Lord 1
vvvslaxman Posted June 28 Posted June 28 India does not have a bowling unit for 5 test series. It is going to be a disaster BGT & TAS for us in the coming days. Current unit can't even last 3 test series BacktoCricaddict 1
Adamant Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Fluke. That attack will be beaten to death most of the times. Chakdephatte 1

The point is that we need a disciplined, motivated group of bowlers. Not old ones who are past their prime (Siraj, Krishna - if he ever had a prime).

INdia did not win one test. THey won 2 tests. drew one with relatively understrength team. Let us give some credit to resource management by a make shift captain. You cannot fluke wins in Australia unless it becomes a bowling shoot out like Windies vs Australia happened. Those were good hard tracks where there were no demons. rollingstoned, iluv80085, BacktoCricaddict and 1 other 1 3

I am not saying that the series victory was fluke, just that the performance of Natarajan etc in gabba was a fluke.

They didn't do anything extraordinary. They just bowled to field. That's all they did unlike siraj was spraying from ball 1 here. We have been crap for a while outside Bumrah. NZ series thoroughly exposed us. Australia further exposed. rollingstoned and BacktoCricaddict 2

New guy Posted June 29 Posted June 29 If we had chased, we would have won this test, simple as that. It was a wicket which got flatter and flatter. And in BGT we chased on one last test. If Australia had chased there, they would have won With such pitches it becomes a 4th innings shootout with chasing team having advantage. vvvslaxman and rollingstoned 2

Despite all the issues when was the last India crossed 350 in both innings of a test. It was way back in 2009 against Srilanka. New guy and rollingstoned 2
