In this match it was the batsmen who flopped. But yes it's a strange statistic. If it was a true team game like football then you could drop him but bowling and batting are individual endeavours.

 

Even when Bumrah isnt taking wickets he puts so much pressure on batsmen that they attack the other bowlers and get out.

Bumrah needs to play the next test, I know he did well in first innings but still we expected more.

 

TBH, the initial over of third innings was such a let down, all 11 players were sledging Crawley and Bumrah didn’t even bowl a single threatening ball.

 

He needs to pick more wickets with the new ball.

He was the opposite. He got them on the knuckles a few times. T hey were uber uncomfortable against Bumrah and he was unlucky not to take a few more wickets.  At the end of the day we bowled them out for 194 runs everyone contributing it. It is a bowling unit. When one doesn't show up other takes up the mantle. That is why ENgland operated. Carse took 2. Then stokes, Then archer. Woakes 1. eventually Bashir.

I was specifically talking about the first over , the only over we bowled on day 3.

When Bumrah bowls , the batsmen have their antennae up and focus from the first ball. When he doesn't there are a few loose shots .

 

Bumrah can bowl after the first 6 overs maybe

I understand his body will not cooperate, but if he is going to have to pick and choose and not be available for the team on a regular basis, it is best he retires from test cricket and focus on white ball only. Or TM takes him out of test contention and just plan without him so we can build a bowling team for the future without Bumrah. It will be hard, but better to plan that way.

Fresh legs and well rounded attack with variety is far more likely to win India the test than a set of defensive bowlers+Bumrah as has been the strategy in other tests. Bumrah not playing is absolutely the right call - he looked tired even in the last test after a recovery period of 9 days.
