Honestly that record don't mean much. Root got there because he played so many tests during his peak. I don't think anyone has played this many tests during such a short span of time. People won't even care for Tests down the line let alone all time highest run getter.

No Indian will get past Root.  We won't be playing many Tests after next 5-6 years.

Root played in the best era for tests as we played so many tests during this phase. Especially playing so many tests when you are at your peak helps. Kohli's test stat looked decent because of that. He also played a lot of tests at his peak.

If he wins an away Ashes and scores huge... He would have a legitimate shout to challenge Smith.

 

Smith is yet to win an away Ashes like Root.  I give Root an edge in Subcontinent always.  In India I'd argue both at similar level of impact.  Though Smith's Pune ton is best hundred by an overseas batter in last 2 decades in India.  But Root has the bulk behind him.

In SL Pak.. Root all the way.  Many match winning efforts.

 

Sheer Impact and quality wise Smith is the best.

But Root breaking SRT record and climbing that ultimate summit would mean he would be immortalized almost.

British sports media would hype him as the best since Bradman.  All that Propaganda would mean he will be hailed above Smith.

Don't worry, he won't. Best they can do is 1-4 or 1-3. Aus may not have won in Eng, but consecutive 2-2 is impressive, and Smith's 2019 Ashes was special.

Nah, in India Root scored on pattas (that too when batting conditions were easiest because they won all tosses) while Smith on much tougher pitches. In SC maybe statistically Root comes out higher, but not in India which is the toughest challenge in SC. 499 runs in BGT 2017 is probably the greatest batting feat of the modern era.

Anderson surpassed McGrath, doesn't mean much. Though they will show their rabid side only to us brown folks. 

 

British media will bark, what can we do? They put Murray as part of Big 4. Only way to shut them up is to do what Kasparov did to Nigel Short......give them a beating so bad that it ends multiple careers and they are forever afraid to make eye contact with you. Till date, not one English GM can open his mouth in Garry's presence, need to make that kind of mental scar.

Root has always shat in tough conditions…… Never played an inning of substance in Australia…. BTW oilee pop has better 100 than him in india, all his 100 was on flattest pitch. I think choke master chokli has played better inning in eng than what root has played in India.

Vaibhav has a little of badmaashi which makes me like him a little more .

 

Mhatre is talented but more orthodox.

 

Mhatre might get more chances especially in red ball due to Mumbai lobby though while Vaibhav will soon be seen in white ball.

Saw a clip which showed his reaction after getting out. Was asking a pak player to clean his shoe or something on those lines. Inability to handle success has ruined many he is just a kid. I hope he has the support structure to keep him under check else another prithiv in making.

Yeah looked bad... In a way its good he got humbled.

 

Media needs to stop hyping him up.  There was no need to send him in Emerging cup as well.  He should have been playing U19 tri series like the rest of the squad.
