Then he can go prove it by playing first class in INDIA. Cuz he knows damn well if plays in first class in england he would be known as entire cosmos best fisherman. So yea Edited August 11, 2025 by Chaos Lord 1

If only one is to be selected in 2027, I'd have 38 yo Kohli over 40 year Rohit Chaos 1
saneindian Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 As great as both have been for Indian cricket, if they are genuinely interested in extending their ODI careers till 2027, they should have voluntarily made themselves available for playing domestic cricket including Ranji/VH trophy or even Duleep Trophy. Imagine them appearing in Duleep Trophy for West and North Zone, the interest in the tournament would have been multifold. If a 43 yr old James Anderson, despite retirement, can play county cricket across formats, why not our legends. Going by how their PR is fighting the simple ask from BCCI, makes it appear as if they consider themselves above the game and see it as their right to play ODIs at their whim.
DeepSpace Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 Yeh log nahin jaaten, look at Tendu. Dragged his averages through the mud sticking around for 2 years after WC 2011. Dravid and Laxman on the other hand retired promptly after 1 failed series. They will be in contention, until they are not. Indians have a problem with quitting. We do not see that will SENA players, especially Aussies. nevada 1

Steve Smith quietly retired from ODIs after the champions trophy and nobody even talks about his retirement. Our maharathis OTOH want to milk the CT win to bag two more years for a chance to fail at one more WC. Had we lost the CT final, these two would still have stayed put to "correct the injustice" of the loss! It's never ending greed for them, don't they feel any guilt about benching promising youngsters like Jaiswal perpetually? Like ABD, they should come as spectators to cheer the team instead of blocking youngsters for years! New guy 1

True but that's more a reflection on popularity of sport in Australia. Sreejesh retired after Paris olympics, how many cared ?

Way the fake fanbases particularly of Kohli responded to the news does make it look like an orchestrated campaign.

Sachin quit from ODIs within a year from the world cup win, you are confusing ODIs with tests. He never played in a big tournament after that. In tests he barely hanged on for a year after his God like form. In fact Sachin had one fo the SMALLEST period of hanging on after losing form before retiring in cricket. Sachin's run from 2007 to 2011 PER year average 55, 48, 68, 78, 47. Then he played just over a year and retired Meanwhile Ponting's last six years in tests, he never averaged above 50 even once and averaged below 40 for 4 out of those 6 years So who had a problem with quitting between Ponting and Sachin (you brought up Aussies)? Sachin was the target of similar hate propaganda which Bumrah was, everything he did was exaggerated a million times. Edited August 11, 2025 by New guy

Sachin's had a phenomenal comeback after his tennis elbow issue and before WC 2011 his test average was almost 57 after playing consistently for 22 years. A phenomenal feat with a magic year leading up to WC. Played two meaningless years and dragged it down by 3 points. OK if he thought he still had it, but did not retire after the England 2011 test series when it was a failure. Could have retired after the Australia series when it was his worst series down under. Still carried on for almost 1.5 years after that!! WC win was not enough, had to go after 100 100s. He left ODI only after scoring that farcical 100 against BD in Asia Cup. Look Sachin was my favorite player to watch (including Gavaskar). No one had the talent, the technique, the range of shots like he did. But IMHO, he underachieved for his talent. And he tarnished his legacy to some extent sticking around when quitting after WC 2011 or few months after should have been in the cards. Nonetheless Kohli's is ten time worse. He was shooting blanks for 5 years before he retired from tests. And for the fat fruck, the less said, the better. He was not even a decent test batsman. Edited August 11, 2025 by DeepSpace
Gollum Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 Sachin should have definitely quit from ODIs post 2011 WC win, unless he was planning to play the next WC at the age of 43 !!!! Unfortunately his last 2 years in international cricket coincided with probably our worst run ever. 0-8 in Aus/Eng, home loss against Eng, not making final of Asia Cup in 2012.....we barely won anything those 2 years, even in T20 WC we got knocked out 1st round. That sullies our memories related to Sachin's final years, those 2-3 years were depressing for any Indian fan and Dhoni was the chief culprit. Ponting struggled in his final 4-5 years (except 2011-12 season I think when he plundered our idiots) but memories aren't as sullied since Aus didn't see such lows like us.
Gollum Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 (edited) Sachin retiring with 99 100s would have been special, like Bradman's 99.94 (ABC's post box number in every capital there is PO box number 9994). His 100th 100 was his worst ever knock, took 140 balls to get there, below par total which Toygers chased down, costing us a spot in the final. Sachin has been my favorite player since childhood, but BS has to be called out no matter who does it.....that 100 was painful. Edited August 11, 2025 by Gollum DeepSpace and nevada 1 1

Why should a player quit when he is at the top? For his selfish average? He thought he could continue for his country and did, he has made so many comebacks, it's obvious he thought it was just bad form Rohit and Kohli swear that playing with him on the other side helped them ease into international way faster at a time when many seniors like dravid, laxman, sehwag etc had retired. Meanwhile both Sanga and Lara retired at "peak" and both their teams batting collapsed and never recovered. Quitting on peak to preserve ones personal average and personal legacy when they still can play for their country and oversee a transition period, is just another form of selfishness As for his legacy, propaganda doesn't destroy legacy of legends, it didn't for Sachin, it won't for bumrah either. Ponting hanging on for 6 years didn't destroy his legacy, some gullible Indian fans buying the anti Sachin propaganda won't destroy Sachin's legacy Edited August 11, 2025 by New guy sage 1

It is not selfish to go out on the top at that age because everyone will understand that he already gave his best for the team. It's different from say AbD retiring at 35
Insidious Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 Kohli is not a burden in ODIs like he was in test. Had a good champions trophy. Should be persisted with. However he needs to play domestics. Rohit had a great game in CT final, but he neither has age, nor fitness in his side. So he should retire gracefully.
Austin 3:!6 Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 I have a contrary opinion — I still think Virat has a couple of years left in ODI cricket. In fact, his Test retirement also felt a bit premature. Remember, he is a generational talent and is totally committed to the game. Rohit Sharma should consider retiring completely though, simply because he no longer has the fitness for a 50-over game. Even Mumbai Indians were playing him as an impact player. However, there is definitely a personal vendetta from Gambhir and Agarkar against these two players. It’s too much politics, and unfortunately, these players are caught in the firing line. If Kohli were to join or show allegiance to the ruling party tomorrow, he would no doubt get a longer rope. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are our legends — both far better than Gambhir or Agarkar. Disrespecting such players and giving them ultimatums & leaking such news only sends a bad message.

Is asking them to play the 50 over domestic tournament in preps for WC a disrespect? If they can play Ranji after media and fan outcry ( even for optics) why cant they play them as form building
LordPrabhzy Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 I have no clue why some sections of Indian cricket has some aversion to playing domestics for Indian contracted players??? If they dont believe in the standard of Indians domestic structure just scrap the damn thing and only have IPL team academies to pick from. VHT is a 2/3 week tournament? Unless these two senior have Christmas and NYE plans then theres no reason to not play
