Australia’s captain Pat Cummins is set to miss the start of the Ashes and may miss the whole series after a fresh round of scans revealed his back stress problem had not yet healed.

Cummins, who had previously expressed confidence that he would be able to take a significant part in the series, is no chance for the opener in Perth, starting on November 21, and may even miss all five Tests, leaving Steve Smith as the likely stand-in skipper to face Ben Stokes’ England team.

All signs points towards Root having a monster series with Cummins out potentially.  He used to trouble Root so much.

Tough to have back up of a champion like Cummins. ATG bowler, contributes with the bat, clutch, leadership qualities. 

 

People like him, Bumrah, Rabada are generational players.

Backups are naturally inferior which is why they don't play regularly 

Means ,Aus had to create a batch which could replace this trio

Fast bowlers are very tough to replace that too a calibre of Cummins,but still they didn't make an effort

Aussies are mature sporting fans, they understand injuries are part and parcel of the sport. Ryan Harris was an even greater bowler, potential-wise, but didn't play much due to fitness issues, Pattinson similar story.....never copped abuse, only empathy and understanding. Ever seen Kiwi fans abusing or questioning Shane Bond's motives?

 

Indians in general don't understand sports, aren't exposed to the challenges faced by sportspersons because sports is frowned upon in our society starting from schools where maths and science teachers take extra classes during weekly once PE/PT classses, where PE teachers are never part of decision making in the school.

 

I remember articles slandering the legendary Karnam Malleswari for not doing well in 2004 Athens (she was dealing with a career ending injury at that time, but still managed to qualify) after she saved our reputation in 2000 Sydney, in the process becoming the first Indian woman to medal in Olympics. Indians are also cowards, always attack in mobs......once Bumrah started getting heat on SM (from not just the usual morons but also agenda driven fanboys of certain other star players), many ex-players joined in, including some legends with 100+ test caps who work with Bumrah's wife in live broadcast/shows.

Cummins debuted in 2011, then had an almost career ending injury. But Aussie system showed patience, kept their trust in him and Cummins came back roaring in 2017 to become one of the greatest ever. Here also, they will prioritize his health and not just for cricket but his wellbeing in general, won't rush him, give him all the time and support he deserves. We do the opposite with our stalwart, Bumrah.

No we treat our pacers as third class labourers ,we think pace bowling is just about running and delivering 

It takes so many things to fall in place to land a perfect delivery or nice line/length

Way more technicality involved in a fast bowling action,than in batting 

It is done deliberately and well fanned by our cricket board to always keep our pacers popularity in check to maintain supremacy of our batsman from good to even mediocre ones

They won't mock a fumble by a Rayudu or our overrated spinners,pseudo swing bowlers but certainly would do with Prasidh, Arshdeep or Shami

Cummins is irreplaceable. Captain, Champion Bowler and Useful batter. Big shoes to fill. Webster and Boland will have to do their part with bowl now. Smith needs to have monster series like 2019 Ashes and England are done. Aussies will have to win First two tests and Poms won't make a comeback but still Poms have very good batting line up compared to last 3 times they have toured down under. Overall this will be very interesting Ashes series down under unlike last 3 series there.

Love how transparent Aussies are. Announce non-availability of players, squads in advance, even their schedules are finalized much earlier giving fans ample time to make plans. In India we leave everything to last minute.

in fact it all boils down to the way we treat our labourers, "third class" in the first place. Any kind of manual labour itself is seen as something derogatory and unworthy instead of a necessary sacrifice to maintain a functioning society. "Why would anyone deserving of respect make their hands dirty?" mentality. The harder someone works, the bigger fool he is in our culture, so obviously fast bowlers are the biggest fools in the cricket world and need to be constantly mocked for even slightest mistakes

Lack of Civic sense is ingrained within us 

Thanks to Chinese firewall we don't see their own dehat which is sometimes as bad as ours.  Their videos pop up from time to time on weibo.

10k Pci will uplift us for sure but it will take something outlandish to take out the dehat within us.
