Aus media mind games have started

Vaughan rage baiting Indians

 

Eng won 3-1 in 2010-11 (1-4 and 0-5 before that in this century)

 

Since then their results downunder:

 

0-5 in 2013-14

Anglos have their own rivalry... It is cultural... The build up to this Ashes has been pretty great in Australia so far indeed. Probably best prior to that Johnson Ashes.  Entire BBC sports journalists SKY team and TNT stuff and Radio guys cover that in Collab with Australian.  Plus the tourism aspect.. it can't be matched.

 

Let's see how this goes. England have a massive chance.  I haven't seen anyone bring this much pace and Fire to Australia since SA in 2018..

Ashes have mostly been meh home and away for Eng

There was no rivalry whatsoever,post 2005 they started competing and only won in 2010/11 against a clueless Aussie side,and has always meekly surrendered 

That hype evenly matched magnitude of the quality of those two sides

No wonder these poms failed to even win 1 test in last 14-15 years down under

Poms are mostly hot air. This time they are placed better, but will be funny if Aussies steamroll them again.

 

In Australia, the real competition has come from West Indies (till mid 90s), RSA and India (post 2000). Since I started watching, quality of cricket in RSA-Aus and Ind-Aus is the highest in world cricket, more admirable in our case because of how different the conditions are back home, it is almost like a clay specialist (Nadal) going toe to toe with a grass maestro (Federer) on the latter's turf. RSA, Aus are similar conditions, Aus does so well in RSA, except the 2018 series (ABDV God mode), mostly one-sided domination in their favor.

The way the ball is coming out of Hazlewood's hand, expect him to have his career best performance this Ashes. He will show that he is also in the Rabada/Bumrah/Cummins class.

Only the English are producing so many fast bowlers anyway.

 

Their collaboration with Loughborough University and coaches like Kevin Shine in domestic have really revolutionised pace bowling there. 

 

SA produce a lot of natural talent but they  aren't able to get them all fit consistently. 

 

Australia not producing the genuine quicks they used to in the 2005-2015 period

Shield cricket quality has fallen off a cliff.

I reckon even Kiwis are in better health atm.

I don't think it's Shield.  From what I understand there is no consensus on workload management .

 

And I even used to quote Cricket Australia's guidelines on bowling loads for young bowlers, thinking they've got it right.

This is what I love most about the Ashes. Great commentators. And so many great shows to look forward to, have bookmarked 7-8 YT channels just for their previews and post-match shows.

 

Sadly no such buildup or analysis for Ind-RSA. Broadcasters will do the same Gill chalisa throughout the test series and then RoKonama once ODIs begin. Indian coverage is garbage.

I get this feeling that the Englishmen like to lose to the Australians and then ooh and aah about it.

 

I got this feeling as a kid when England dropped John Snow from the 1974-75 tour to Australia. While Lillee and Thomson were wrecking havoc, Englands best fast bowler who arguably won them the Ashes under Illingworth in Aus was sitting back home. They did not want Snow answering Lillee and Thomson's fire and teaching a young Bob Willis to be like him. Best leave him at home.

 

BTW AI says this about Snow and the 1970/71 series.....  

  • Intimidating bowling and crowd incidents: During the 1970-71 Ashes, Snow's short-pitched bowling was very effective but controversial, particularly after he hit Australian batsman Terry Jenner with a bouncer. When the crowd responded by throwing beer cans, Snow was grabbed by a fan, and captain Ray Illingworth took the team off the field.
  • Disciplinary issues: Following the incident, Snow was disciplined upon his return to England. This event, along with his generally confrontational style, contributed to his reputation as being a difficult team member.
  • Team management conflicts: England captain Mike Denness wanted Snow on the 1973-74 West Indies tour, but selector Allen Bedser overruled him because Snow was not considered a "good team man". Denness also requested Snow for the 1974 tour of Australia, but the selectors' decision not to include him was likely influenced by the events of the previous tour. 

Now "good team man" = willing loser.

 

Heck I would have given Snow a medal. Everytime anyone bowls fast at the Australians like Larwood to Bradman or Snow in 1970/71, the Australians start crying like little girls.

 

 

PS - Do not compare what happened in Aus with the 1976 Kingston test.... nobody was bowling beamers here at the darling Aussies.
