Generally in previous generation senior player hanged on to not create a huge gap in team and their main focus was to make a stable transition

But these guys had to be kicked out in tests and now not leaving odis

Even though india has huge batting talent supply and they are just destroying youth of Jaiswal ,Abhishek, Verma etc

They have played for 20 years and earned hundreds of crore and are very old  how long they want to milk it

This selfish behaviour is beyond my understanding

1- Both wants to win Odi world cup and as they have won the T20i Wc they think that they have broken the barrier of not winning the ICC events.

2- They still are biggest earners for the board bringing most of the sponsorships and endorsements

3- This is more fr Rohit than fr kolhi- Being an active Ind player keeps their stocks high in IPL and helping them keeping the stocks high.

Rohit does not have same kind of status in his IPL team as Kolhi has for rcb and Dhoni for CSK

4-Both are white-ball masters but they do not have anything to show for it, if they wont win the Odi wc their legacy will be tarnished and their their records be consider fake and critical ppl will find the gaps why they did not win any Odi wc when one of them is considered the best white-ball batter and the other best white ball opener.

5-To continue the lifestyle which they are enjoying right now they need to create legacy so that inflow of the mny continues as its hard to imagine that both will come to broadcasting or coaching.

6- By extension of all the reason they are still making a lot of mny an they would still want ot milk it and as their is no other obvious new big star the sponsors would also like them to carry-on.

The blames lies on selectors as it is their job to select the players based on perfomance and not on their brand value.

Virat and Rohit can still play in IPL.

The selectors should make it compulsary for them to play in domestic and if performed can be selected.

Maybe true for Rohit, but Kohli has already won an ODI WC in 2011

he was not a major contributor, no one attributes that win to him

Doesn't matter. Still he played a crucial role in the final.

Maybe you meant he didn't get the fanfare because the attention was on Sachin, Dhoni and Gambhir

here kolhi's record in 2011 wc  do not think it was that good 1-ton and 1-50 vs lower ranked teams, apart from that only one 30 or more score vs any good side(sl)

yes knock in final was needed but it was not mth winning, he is top batter and considered best in odis do not think this matches his reputation.

major contributor were along side you mentioned were yuvi and zak

To be fair, it is not the player's job to move aside. They are welcome to keep playing cricket into their 60s if they want. Whether to select them for the national team is the selector's job. Unfortunately in India the selector's themselves have no incentive to make calls which would be obvious in most other countries but are controversial in Indian cricket.

The two have retired from Tests and T20Is if I am not wrong. They have said that they will like to play (not retire) till 2027 ODI World Cup.

I don’t see a problem as long as they remain fit and display form including in IPL. Their eventual selection for the world cup should depend on their form 3-4 months before the World Cup.

I think it is good to keep them in the picture while also looking to develop backups in case their form nose dives in 2027.

they were never a problem in ODIs.

In T20s good for them to go out on a high even though moving away from them in that format was always on the cards.

in tests they saw writing on the wall and a threat that their averages will drop further.
