Its reckless when it fails only. Same approach was being lauded previously. Every player has a role and an opener especially has no reason to change it. If Abhishek plays defensive, he'll waste deliveries but there's no guarantee of success. If anything he'll put pressure on himself and the team. 4 players are not repeatedly,as I said even someone as experienced as Kohli failed in 4-5 games in WT20 before the final. Let him play full tourney and then assess. Others are failing too tbh Arrey bhai ....don't compare to others. Others have different gears. He plays only in 5th gear. Intent is not reckless only when it fails. It is reckless when there is no adjustment after repeated exposure. Good players evolve when bowlers figure them out. An opener’s role is not to swing blindly. It is to maximize team value in first PP. Sometimes that means controlled aggression, not one dimensional hitting. BCCISelector 1
rangeelaraja Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I am not going to be assured even if he tonks Zimbabwe. Good teams now have plans for Abhishek -- they know he can be easily lured to chase deliveries to hit out. At this point, the confidence in him is not good. Hope he can tighten his game.

This is pretty much the first time he is being tested, that too in WC. Still too early to write him off. He is not one dimensional. Can hit all round the ground which got him success for nearly 2 years.Lets not forget he might be lacking in strength too due to illness. He'll learn from this experience and only get better. That's why he is still being persisted despite scores of 0 0 0 & 15. But clearly, that strategy has not worked. We hv reached the fag end of the tournament & are staring at a humiliating Exit on our home soil. This strategy has not helped the team in any way. Yes he has got enough backing for he has been asked to play that way and it seems he's the only one for whom they have defined it (role)clearly But they haven't defined it for others, guys like Tilak and Sky are struggling to put bat once spinners are on or when there is some slowness in the deck, don't have the ability to rotate strike at the same time, this phase puts tremendous pressure on the team What was Sundar supposed to do yesterday who was played for Axar?so many mistakes this man GG makes even before a ball is bowled Besides this I don't think TM including GG has any plan A,B or C for that matter in such situations Neither they do marking of main players of opposition Many of these guys are playing their1 st WC,so not surprised to see their current response from these many games we have played raki05, Frustrated and Lord 1 2
Gollum Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Mohd Amir is a fixer, sly, crook etc. But he has a sharp cricket acumen, more than our Indian experts at least. Back to the drawing board for Abhishek/Yuvi, and no need to overhype him and compare him with GOATs at this early stage of his career.
Bigg Brother Posted February 23 Posted February 23 3 ducks aside, yesterday was his worst innings of career. The guy was literally embarrassing himself and begging for the bullet. That's why we should never hype bilateral series performances. raki05 and Frustrated 1 1
deepdynamo Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Abhishek has looked very limited in this world cup. Once his favourite offside was blocked, he wasn't able to find easy boundary. He legside play was non existent. raki05 1
IndianRenegade Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) anything in life sports, work, relationships will humble you, you need to listen when it happens & make changes. In this case, Adhibshek doesn't seem to listen, if the shots aren't coming off play for time, rotate the strike, he needs to win the battle in his mind. Edited February 23 by IndianRenegade raki05 1
Adamant Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I think Abhishek will do well in the next two matches, no student of Yuvi can ever be a choker.

When a side is down and out,it's job of the TM including ninjaguru GG to take them out of the mess by boosting their morale/confidence This side may not recover from here, that's my fear They have the ability to bounce back but much depends on the backroom talks/environment as well from now on raki05 and Lord 2

So if we win next two we go through. And beating WI and Zim should be much easier

Look Abhishek is out of form and also doing some reckless batting but thats the time other should have stepped in. We won against pooks asia cup final after being 24/4 . Yesterday target was not beyond reach and tilak is in the team to provide that stability after initial wkt fall. But looks like our team entire hope is pinned to abhishek and kishan batting and they dont have plan b when both these batters get out. Anyone remember 96 wc sf, till sf Jaysurya or kalu was winning all the matches till kouts and when Stinath got them both in first over we all thought that’s it sf is in our bag , but thats when D’silva shown his master class in sf and final and not just him entire mo of mahanama, girusingha, ranatunga and tilakratney. They all chipped in with 40-50 and eventually scored 250.On contrast india is heavily realying on top orddr, tilak, sky , rinku , sundar are good for nothing against good team only Dubey and too an extent pandya has some fighting spirit. But with all these shitty mo you cant win world tournament. Edited February 23 by raki05 Lord, Ravi_Shastri and Suhaan 3

I am not surprised that we lost, just that there was a complete lack of cricketing IQ to not go for the NRR saving effort by some of the most experienced T20 players in the world is pathetic. raki05, Lord and Suhaan 2 1

Tilak has two glaring problems 1)vs Spin 2)In most situations like 1,he has to rotate strike thereby not making things simple for bowler and captain, there will be seldom bad balls in between of a tight spell to break the shackles, just block and hit won't make you solid LOI batsmen, that goes against his stake in odi xi also ,which he's dreaming to be a part of Edited February 23 by Suhaan raki05 1

Sure bhai, the fixer got this one thing right maybe he will be right about India not making the semi finals, still in his case it looks more like broken clock. Agree about the point regarding Abhishek needing to go back to the drawing board Gollum 1
