Knowing the small man he is, this could have been directed towards Sachin, Kohli, Dhoni, anyone really.

He doesn't  want anyone to forget his 97 in wc final

The biggest praise for Gg is that post retirement he has put himself out there.

Got elected to parliament with more than 50% (with the grace of Modiji). Was a popular Mp from what i can tell.

Coached teams to ipl glory with Kkr. Coached India to 2 ICC trophies.

I am sure he had enough money to retire and become a commentator. A soft job.

What exactly has Msd or even Sachin done? Will Msd still be whistle Podu again in his 40s?

As mentioned before test cricket has not worked out. Needs to be replaced. But my hats off to him for his service to the nation.

Many people do charity but quietly.

Sachin has been associated with an organization, Apnalaya, which works on education for the underprivileged kids.

Kohli did waste balls for hsi century. Turned down singles. I don't think anyone else has done that.  Rohit sharma missed quiet a few centuries in 2023 world cup as he was focusing on intent. So it is directed at Kohli. But few times he did when the game was almost over. But in the semi final he was taking time though. Iyer's finish saved us

What was his attendance record in Parliament? What work did he do? Did he participate in any discussion, or ask questions, introduced bills?

AFAIK, he was commentating in Indore and enjoying poha-jalebi with Laxman when Parliament was in session.

PS- Sachin too had terrible attendance and his lack of participation was disgraceful. If you don't take the job seriously, why sign up?

What? You brought up GG being elected to Parliament, being a popular MP etc. What does that have to do with cricket?

Tbh I started this thread knowing the bad blood that exists between Gambhir and Kohli. Neither likes each other, so obviously it’s not far-fetched to think he would drive home his PoV after winning WC.

Do I think his opinion is right? Yes

Do I think this is the right time to say such things? I don’t think so.

GG is me in teams, friends and family. Unit above individual. That's why I always had low opinion of demagogues of Indian cricket. It goes against my core ethos.

When he dedicated Dravid and vvs for this win, I thought great job. That's what I would do. When he said that India is not Australia of 2007, that's what I would do. Because he said look at bilateral losses of India.

Gauti's attitude is exactly what I have wanted in myself. I still think though he is not the best coach for India.

This is same Gambhir who kicked Samson out to fit Gill into the team. Now he doing 180 degrees.

There is nothing wrong in player wanting to get milestone,in t20s it will be 50s as 100s are rare. Sanju, Ishan not get to their 50s or Abhshek not get to his 50 .

In odis it will be  100s, only a moron will say 97 out is greater than 100 not out in wins.

If Sanju or Abhishek keeping going they will be super stars. Will GG then say we don't need superstars.

Rohit gave Dravid due after winning CT too.

Plus didn't  this guy GG wanted Kohli to be dropped for not scoring 100s .

Need full context, my guess is someone asked him about Sanju getting out close to 100, 3 times.

we should stop looking for controversies in everything.

It’s clear he is talking about Kohli

Though I don't like Gambhir's strategies and tactics such as pushing Gill in the team or replacing Axar with Sundar, I'm all on board with Gambhir's sentiments about team over individual glory.

For me wining tournies mean everything! Samson's three scores in 80s & 90s are greater than 100s the same way I rate Gambhir's 97 in 2011 WC final or Tendulkar's 98 against Pak in 2003 WC (his greatest ODI innings IMO). That's why I rate Bumrah higher than 5-fers or 10-fers due to Bumrah's impact. At the end of the day it's all about winning tournaments and if you can't get your team over the line, what's the point?

I hope we've gone away from useless 100s and stat-padding and the team uses Samson, Abhishek, Ishan, Tilak, Pandya's innings this WC as the template. No 100 by any of them but they won matches for the team! That's what I care about.
