Me too! Thought that after kicking out freeloader SKY they were targeting Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja etc. to prepare for WC 2027. But looks like they're going after fringe players and want to exploit them in their retirement as well

This has because KS Bharat retired at age 32 and they suspect he did so to play foreign leagues...

It is only players who know they will not be picked in both Indian team and IPL who are taking retirement, so they can make a living from playing foreign leagues. What is wrong with that?

 

None of the Indian players who will get picked in IPL will play foreign leagues, as the pay will be peanuts in comparison..

Seems like Lanka Premier League.

 

He was not getting a place in Tamilnadu state team so was playing for Tripura LOL, so seems to have taken retirement now to play foreign leagues to make a living..

Isn't it hypocritical of the BCCI to prevent Indian players from playing overseas leagues whereas the IPL has overseas player participation? Mainstream players are restricted anyway. What's wrong if fringe players like Vijay Shankar, Srikar Bharat etc retire in Indian cricket to go play in some small tournament here and there? They have families to feed, and they were rejected by the IPL anyway, so in what way are they damaging any brand value?

It is all about control, BCCI needs to be taken to courts.This is illegal, how can you prevent a player from earning his livelihood.

 

The need to audit BCCI , where is all the money from IPL and other TV revenues is going, how much money are these politicians putting in their own pockets.

They can not any thing concrete, they would just put some fuzzy lines and some cooling-off time of sorts.

Players and board have to come to some conclusion which is best for both. 

 

As for players who are not getting into Ipl and Ind side will not be able to get much of leagues gig may be just 1-2 or some low tier ones which does not offer much as they too target current players of teams like sl+pak and near retiring big names of Sena teams

Either bcci needs to boost (double) pension or let these players be.

 

Issue for journeyman ranji players who dont strike it big in t20.

Fully aligned. I can understand the rationale of BCCI blocking active Indian players from not participating in the leagues as that's the key differentiator between IPL and the other leagues, i.e. you get to see Indian players only in IPL. But once they retire they should be free to play their trade.

 

The shelf life for a sportsperson is short so nothing wrong in them maximizing it, especially folks who're on the fringes. Stars like Dhoni, Rohit, Kohli and other top stars do will not have a need to do so but likes of Vijay Shankar, Mayank Aggrawal, Hanuma Vihari etc. who didn't have a long career have every right to do what's best for them once they hang up their boots. I see it no different than playing exhibition matches.

The pensions are decent , they will not match what players get in leagues but these are not that bad.

I understand that BCCI doesn't want players to skip/retire from Ranji to play overseas leagues. But there has to be a way to balance this...

All the big boards are putting plans for this bcci is not new, ecb said IPL + 1 more league, think ca is same. 

 

Also what will happen now is that the itnl caps will nt be thrown anymore players with high potential will only get the caps. Eng stopped considering player who were giving more priority to leagues.

Difference is ECB and CA are putting these clauses for active players who are under their contract. This is not applicable if players retire and are no longer under their board's contract. But in this case Shankar is being targeted after he retired and is no longer considered for India selection.

Yes bcci should allow even current players to play at-least 1 more league outside ipl

Naah not the current players. That will devalue IPL coz the USP of IPL is that's the only league where people can see Indian players. If Indian players can play other leagues, IPL will be severely devalued. It's the retired players who should be allowed to do whatever they want.
