BacktoCricaddict Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) I was having this conversation with a friend a few days ago, and it turned into a Maradona vs Messi debate. I stopped watching futbol seriously in the early 90s, and have never regained interest. So, time is frozen in my mind. And to me, there is no one ... absolutely no one ... greater than Diego Armando Maradona. Who is your futbol GOAT? Why? Edited June 18 by BacktoCricaddict Vickydev and cricspirit 1 1

That should be the default option who does a poll without knowing who voted for whom so we can debate and troll each other. Basic rule of public forum.

Sandz Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Maradona should get the vote just for the hand of god goal against the POMs. They are still crying about it.

There is a reason longevity wasn't a thing back then. Lothar Matthaus would go for Maradona's ankles, to break them. Fouling was very different back then, check YT videos man, just of Maradona being fouled....you'll realize that none of these modern players would have endured that kind of physical punishment. It is like comparing batsmen from pre-helmet era to modern greats. Edited June 18 by Gollum G_B_, cricspirit, diga and 1 other 2 2

Take out maradona and the 78 argie side was streets ahead of 86. Messi had a much better team in 2022. Pele too was part of an amazing team diga, BacktoCricaddict and Gollum 3

Gollum Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Even Pele had it rough. 1966 Brazil was marked out for special punishment. Guys like him and Maradona had matches where they were fouled 20 times in a match. Today's players are much better protected and thankfully it is mostly about skills and athleticism, instead of MMA.

So many videos on YT about fouls against Maradona, will make you flinch hard. Nothing like we see these days, no wonder players back then retired in their late 20s. Human body isn't equipped to handle that sort of punishment. BacktoCricaddict 1
