That's a pretty wild comparison. I can see comparisons between Haaland and Andre Russel or Pollard or Andrew Symonds. But Rohit?

Kohli = Ronaldo

Bumrah = Messi

Rohit = Haaland

Pandya = Neymar

Tipak Verma = Mbappe

England knew Draw with Ghana is shubh as Germany too played draw with them in 2014 and went on to winning tournament.

England is not winning anything. Germany, Argentina, France and Brazil look way better. Even Spain is slightly ahead and Eng are at the same level as US at the moment.

I want either Japan to win (unlikely to happen), or a France - Argentina final again where Mbappe shuts off Martinez once and for all and wins the cup.

Totally lost interest in the WC. Too many groups and too many teams. Literally every half decent team will get to the next stage. Essentially most of the matches in the WC will be played to reduce the teams from 48 to 32 :facepalm:

I'll resume watching when the knockouts start coz this is nothing but meaningless moneygrab. Even ICC learned their lessons and reduced the number of teams in the WC to 10 or 12.

I don’t watch futball leagues but I have religiously watched every World Cup and most Euros since 1990, I don’t get the Ronaldo hype. Yes he is very good but am I the only one who feels forget Messi, even Mbappe is leagues ahead of him? Don’t get the hype. Is he the KL Rahul of soccer? Ronaldo is a monster in club football and international friendlies. He has record for scoring highest number of goals in international football (145)  but he struggles in wc and euros. At peak of his powers in 2014 where he was scoring 60+ goals a season for real madrid he failed to score vs minnows ghana and usa. Surprisingly he did well in ucl finals but a bilateral bully in internationals

Yeah he didnt do much in internationals playing for Portugal but his popularity stems from what he has done for biggest clubs like RM, Man U and Juventus. His football in 2013 was equal to Sachin's 1998 or Kohli 2016. Thats why he won Ballon D'or in 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2017 respectively. He was crazy good on those years. Adding his athleticism and overall personality, he is so popular.

He was good but that was circa half a decade ago at least. Been hanging on grimly to try and break personal records even if harms team objectives ala Old Man Kohli. Until yesterday had gone 10 games without a goal in major tournaments.

Ronaldo’s last major tournament goal for Portugal came on Nov. 24, 2022, in a 3-2 win over Ghana in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

Last goal from open play came almost five years ago in a 4-2 defeat to Germany in a Euro 2020 group game, played in 2021.

Has failed to find the net in eight knockout-stage matches since making his World Cup debut in 2006.

Even in peak years was more of a machine than an artist.

I am no soccer expert bro. Used to follow WCs seriously till 2006 edition, but club football never interested me.

I don't rate CR7 that highly based on whatever I have seen of him in WCs and Euros. But his club dominance is undeniable. Club records are taken very seriosuly in that sport, it is what it is.

Vini Jr is such a flair player in the mould of Pele. Vintage dribbling

The way Scotland were playing I was thinking about match fixing. Never saw a team try to lose the way Scots were trying to in the first half.

Most of the lower ranked teams don't have many established players. They just come with  a defense strategy.  They hold on to it as much as possible. Once you breach it things start falling apart.  They start playing erratically, cluelessly without any coordination. That is why you see a lot of star players freeily go solo against such teams without anyone marking them.  Having said that you still need an accurate pass. These big teams have so many set piece routines. They know what to do when they see a certain defense pattern.
