Great person and personality. Rest in Peace Sir. For the past few years, and the coming next, this is going to be fairly routine...to see some of the old stalwarts fall. Just makes you pessimistic and possibly cynical but also the reason to maybe enjoy life, and lives like Dev Anand, as much as we can.

what is your favorite song of Dev Anand ?
Thats a tough one actually. He seems to have been amongst perhaps the most of the beautiful numbers that came out of Hindi movies. A different approach to that would be some of the songs for him that were penned by Gopaldas Neeraj. Neeraj was stellar as a Hindi poet and many of his songs were very much pure Hindi, very different from the usual Hindi-Urdu combo used by most lyricists. And even in pure Hindi he managed to write some abolute gems. Of course he also penned in Hindi-Urdu when needed. A few of Neeraj's gems for Dev Anand. Phoolon ke rang se, dil ki kalam se tujhko likhi roj paati. Rangeela re, mere man mein yun ranga hai tera man Jeevan ki bagiya mehegi. Of course Neeraj is the same guy who also wrote - Karwaan gujar gaya gubaar dekhte rahe. Come to think of it, thats what I would miss about Dev Anand, and stars of his era (Raj kapur for example). They had a keen eye for music and often picked folks who were great at penning down classic songs.

Dil Aaj Shaya hai was an absolute masterpiece. Great composition, great singing, great lyrics and nicely shot. And my fav film - Jewel Thief. No one will be able to write Hindi film history without dedicating a whole chapter to Dev Anand.

Saw this comment on YouTube as a tribute to Dev Anand saab, which I thought summed up great. देव साब...हर मौसम के लिए एक कहानी, हर उदास दिन के लिए एक गीत, और हर अकेले चलने वाले के लिए एक बेपरवाही छोड़ के जाने का शुक्रिया. Couple of points: a) Nobody captures the beparwaahi like Dev saab ever did. It was sad and uplifting, optimistic and with hope even if it captured pain. So many songs of his are where he just seems to melt away with the song carrying his persona as he emerges from a painful affair. b) What a lovely language Urdu is. Beparwaahi...Wah! No other language would have a word that sums it so very well. xxx

Gata Rahe is my favorite.
One of them. There's so many excellent ones: - Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya. - Khoya khoya chand. - Hai dil apna to awara. - Pal bhar ke liye koi hamein. I guess i like the carefree ones. I love the video for accha ji main haari, Madhubala is a goddess [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2rFmmdUIbQ]Kala Pani - Achcha Jee Main Haari - Mohd Rafi - Asha Bhonsle - YouTube[/ame]
