New guy Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Why the idiot selectors are not considering Aaron in ODI's is beyond me,that guy has a good yorker and a brain.Agree, Aaron was always better than Yadav in shorter format Give him a stint under a different captain... If he continues like this, kick him out... He must've been under immense pressure... Dhoni has been mentally harassing him on and off field, in press conferences for many years now... Just remove Dhoni's cancerous like presence in Indian team and see how many bowlers flourish... Give him a chance under Kohli...You can see the difference in his body language under both captains vijay50 and Rasgulla 2
express bowling Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) A few observations on Umesh Yadav --He is a bowler who somehow lacks the ability of " self-motivation " completely. He needs an extra-supportive captain or continuous wickets to keep him focused and enthused. Now, this is a major weakness but captains have to accept the reality and utilize him keeping this point in mind. He is a bowler who does much much better when the ball is reversing or seaming or there is conventional swing. As line and length is not his forte, he looks lost on a flat deck.Someone must have told him that he needs to bowl well within himself to be accurate. They are wrong. A bowler is most accurate when he is bowling at his normal speed and rhythm...in Umesh's case 138 k to 148 k.He does not practice enough and the bowling coach and team management need to see that he does.Despite all these weaknesses , Umesh has 79 wickets from 57 ODIs @ 1.39 wickets per match....which is second best in this Indian team after Shami and quite good in absolute terms. Shows that he is a wicket taker. When there is movement on offer, whether swing or seam and Umesh is bowling quick at 138 k to 148 k ...Umesh still looks like a very good and potent pacer at international levelIn a nutshell, keeping these points in mind, Umesh should only play under Kohli, always kept motivated, practice much much more, always bowl at full pace and rested on absolute flat tracks if the opposition has a very good batting lineup. Adi_91 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 He has been consistently terrible in India's poor ODI run since World Cup 2015. This guy should be dropped from the T20s against Aussies.
Laaloo Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 This dumbass should be no where near T20 OR ODI TEAM for now..all this ICF fakepans wank off to this so called piss gun enough with the abuse
sandeep Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Umesh Yadav is the Umar Akmal of the Indian team. Fans remain seduced by his so-called talent, but he just can't put together a professional performance in one game, let alone be consistent over a period. Just like our greenies have a scarcity of quality batsmen, we have a thar desert of bowlers where even a cactus looks like a bloody oasis. Edited January 23, 2016 by sandeep Adi_91 1
Trundler27 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Umesh is very disappointing so far into his career. He has such a special talent that not many in India possess. He has the ability to bowl quick and swing the ball.... however, he just doesn't seem to have the mental strength to go up against destructive batters and he doesn't seem to have a plan. I have been supporting this guy since he got in the team and even before that but for any international player there should be a review of where they stand after a couple of years in the national setup and then necessary action taken. Otherwise we will keep ending up with useless once in a blue moon type of performers like Ishant sharma. IMO Umesh has reached that juncture. He is not a reliable bowler in international cricket at this time. So he needs to go back to domestic cricket and figure things out. We have other exciting quicks to try out in the meantime. Our entire bowling line-up looks very sub-standard at this time and it needs serious work if we are to compete overseas again. Rasgulla, Adi_91 and Mosher 3
asterix Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Again, we don't know the internal issues... You have to understand that the amount of support or long rope other bowlers (like Ishant etc)have received from the captain, Umesh might not have received those. On top of it, he could have been mentally scarred and not able to concentrate when his tormentor is not giving him the field or watching him from the opposite end, behind the wicket.. Who knows how much line and length sanskaars been thought to him every day...People say he doesn't practices a lot, which is difficult to believe...We have to see how he fairs under a more supporting captain who's not out there to hound him... I mean he's been publicly berated.. Dhoni's hate for him is public... And just because Dhoni hates him, Dhoni's fanboys too hate him (not that it matters)...If he continues like this under a better captain, then you can send him back to domestic level or drop him completely..,Mind you, he will still be potential strike bowler in Test team.., Rasgulla and Mosher 1 1
zen Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Fast bowlers have different temperament. They need to be handled with care. There is one consistent issue with Indian cricket - a fast bowler is uncovered or pops up on the scene. Initially, he is promising but then somehow loses it or turns in to a trundler. At times, the fast bowler is ignored when he is at his peak or when he could have benefited by being drafted early in to international cricket and then makes his debut when he is past his peak speed If these things are consistently being repeated throughout the history of Indian cricket, who is at fault? Is it the fast bowlers or the system? If it is the system, we are probably using wrong metrics to judge fast bowlers Based on the results that we have been getting, it would appear as if Ind has destroyed the fast bowling culture in its cricket. I don't know too many countries where Mark Ealham types of bowlers would be rated higher (and brainy) than someone who can bowl consistently at 145 kmph or faster and may be go for runs in the process May be our system is such that it is creating a conflict or confusion in the minds of fast bowlers. And they are in a neither here nor there mindset. .... For a few years, why can't we overlook the ER aspect of fast bowlers and celebrate things such as the fastest bowl bowled, wickets taken, how the batsman was hurried up, how the batsman could not even see that ball, how the batsman was bounced out, how much reverse swing the bowler was able to generate, etc. If India does not produce good and great fast bowlers, somewhere down the line it is our fault. That India has mediocre bowlers (or people are not too keen to take fast bowling) is probably because of how its cricketing culture has shaped up. .... If we do not change, who knows, even 20 years down the line cricket fans will be discussing how brainless a fast bowler is and why Ind cannot produce good fast bowlers .... To revive or build a fast bowling culture in India, persisting and giving confidence and freedom to the likes of Yadavs, Aarons, etc. is a small price to pay Edited January 23, 2016 by rett Mosher, New guy and express bowling 3
zen Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Expanding on Ind's cricketing culture, may be it can be defined by the following line of thinking - "Score runs, Save runs". The first half is great, but the 2nd half is what has created the problem. When the mindset is to "save runs", the strategy and tactics change. Since "saving" automatically puts one in a defensive mindset. And this would impact Ind's performances in formats such as Tests too. The approach is similar to fortification. Such approaches have probably caused Ind states to be ruled by the attacking foreign forces. May be Ind needs to think along the lines - "Score runs in all conditions, Pick up wkts in all conditions". This type of thinking would encourage an approach which banks on more attacking strategies and tactics, and go the extents of fueling innovation. When you have are focused on picking up wkts, you automatically become attacking. If a batman stays on the crease for long, you innovate to get him out. You are also thinking more as to attack you have to take the initiative and also become more focused as attacking has risks associated to it. All these would eventually make you a better cricketer, team and a cricketing nation. Mosher and express bowling 2
express bowling Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I agree that Umesh has been a big disappointment in ODIs. But even ODis are not won unless there are bowlers who can take opposition wickets. Umesh Yadav, with 79 wickets from 57 matches @ 1.39 wickets per match, ....in still one of our best wicket takers among pacers after Shami.Frankly...what does that say about our other pacers. Do they deserve a chance if they cannot outbowl a " brainless " and erratic bowler who gets overwhelmed when hit ??

Well, the thing is that people expected more out of Umesh because he had traits other bowlers couldn't emulate (genuine pace) and the hope had been that he would develop into a genuine and complete fast bowler after some yrs on the circuit. Instead, he has either remained stagnant or regressed. The fact that he has 1.4 wkts per match is not so amazing - I'm sure that Pisshant is in the same ball park. And once Shami returns, one of these 2 howlers...er..bowlers must make way.
