Lord Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I don't think many of you realize that but for Ashwin' date=' South Africa would have easily won the match. Just check out his figures and see how tightly he has bowled. While most of our bowlers were going at 3-4RPO, Ashwin managed to peg back things at less than 2.5 RPO. If we had two Ashwin operating - SA would not even have come close to the target! Pace bowlers should get the wickets in South Africa while spinners must look to choke the batsmen for runs - I think Ashwin has done that. With experience, he will buy wickets. Even Kumble started picking up wickets in these conditions only after several tours - on his first tour to Australia, Kumble averaged 90 at a S/R of 175![/quote'] agree his figures : 36-5-83-0 Zak's figures : 34-1-135-1(Kallis LBW)
Detonator Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Agreed. Dhoni doesn't deserve either. Dhawan or kohli haven't played much. Ashwin played in Australia' date=' and Sa. 69 overs without a wicket..❕❕❕..lol.. What a waste of space in Indian team.[/quote'] I see u refuse to talk abt nohit's flop :sherlock:

Ppl speak like if we had bhuvi/umesh, we would ve won easily. Don't forget that the batsmen on crease were faf and abdv, players with so much class, prizing their wicket much and most of all they showed how to chase a massive target on tough conditions. AB's dismissal was unlucky and faf's a freakish run out. Give credit where it's due. Our fanboys are hiding our pacers inability to take wickets and dish out hate towards ashwin. very unfair.

Problem with this logic Zaheer a fast bowler bowled more overs than a spinner he was tired and not as good as could have been had he bowled 20 overs with extra fast bowler You people are forgetting how hard it was even for steyn to pick wickets cos he had to bowl more and there was one less bowler and entire attack looked half as good Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Zanjeer Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I see u refuse to talk abt nohit's flop :sherlock: it was a a mistake. Forgot to mention his name.
South_Paw Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 He still has not played in one genuine spin track abroad. Can't be ruled out based on his perfomance in SA. The England series will be his decider. Also, if we need to be so strict on Team selection, there are more FTBs to be cut before laying hands on this guy.

Old guy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 yep. the same could happen to the 4th pacer as well' date=' if he fails to take a wicket. the test would ve been lost.[/quote'] You are missing the point.. Statistically fast bowlers do much much better here than spinner and i can assure you any bowlers who plays will take at least 1 wicket which is better than what ashwin did even on day 5 Had he taken even 1 wicket we would have won the match ...also please don't use this type of logic with me..if this is case why even play anyone else ever again? We will never know how quick bowler would have done here cos he did not play but we can see problem with ashwin away from home and obvious solution is play quick bowler on green tracks And play ash win at home ..horses for courses until we find all rounder which allows us to play everyone :winky: till then we have to make do with picking bowlers where they perform and Australia in past had Shane warne who performed on these tracks and we had Kumble who was very decent too away from home but when u don't have those guys u play bowlers who suit the conditions and playing 4 quickies on green track will give more control than playing a spinner who won't even pick a wicket and bowlers would have to bowl much longer with 3 guys picking wickets than 4 guys all picking wickets..it's simple maths really
putrevus Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Their spinners picked up 4 wickets ,Ashwin nada and who were battling to save test again. If anyone says Ashwin bowled well then whole definition of fifth day wicket and spinner changes, no one is expecting Ashwin to run thru the sides but not to pick even one wicket and he never looked like he would pick one wicket either is big issue. It was his good fortune that they had such a big total to chase that they did not want to lose their wickets other wise he was going for plenty. Can he improve his performance I doubt it, he has shown thru out his short career he is more a product of helpful wickets and bad teams .Sooner or later he needs to show that he can perform this excuse of unhelpful wickets will take him only so far.

He will only get this much help abroad. SA spinners took 4 wickets. As for England, he was toothless against them on dust-bowls in India so not much hope in England. Durban will be a big test for him if he plays.
NareshK Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 This is Wanderers where spinners have traditionally struggled. Cut the guy some slack. He is very inexperienced in foreign conditions and will learn. He has talent and one of the quickest in test history to pick 100 wickets. He will get better. Its not as if Jadeja or Ojha would have ran through the line up here. A seamer all rounder might have made some difference. Otherwise, picking another seamer would mean having a big tail and no real spin option if wicket offers turn and a slow over rate. That's why a spinner all rounder like Ashwin is our best option.

Tahir and Duminy bowled terribly for the most part and got smashed all over the park by Indian batsmen. Ashwin bowled much more economically.

If ur calling him all rounder than he should either allow us to play extra batsman or extra bowler if he does not than he is not all rounder and just a proper bowler who can bat a bit
Iconoclast Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Very surprising that a cricket crazy nation of 1 billion+ can't produce a better spinner than this

If those wickets had not fallen, they would have chased and then ashwin's 2.5 rpo would not have mattered. We missed an extra genuine seamer in Yadav who could have troubled then in a variable track.
