No Indian spinner has done good in Aus. Not Kumble' date=' not Bhajji in his prime. He still did ok[/quote'] So a poor series in Aus doesn't count as one and therefore the the England series is the only one where he didn't do well?

The avg might not be exceptional but 49 wickets in 10 tests is very acceptable. Unfair to criticize Ashwin on the basis of that tour though, his performance against Eng were much worse.

It was not a poor series for a spin bowler, it was a decent one

Do you expect spinners to take 5-fers and win matches for you in places likes Australia?

People will criticize when someone is not doing well because they care about the team. Ashwin averaged 50+ with the ball in helpful conditions against England and India lost the series against them after 28 years. Some anger is justified.
Are you suggesting Ashwin was the reason why we lost the series to England.. not the washed up oldies who were making Panesar look like Derek underwood on a wet wicket? Soon after the series New zealanders put Panesar in his place.

ROFL. Ashwin seems to be an innocent dude who's honeymoon period might have ended as India will be playing pretty much everything overseas. I hope he does well, but I am sure he will continue to get slack from people :) I hope he doesn't come up with comments like "Even Torres was left out." again like he did before, if he's dropped in the next match.

Correct me if i am wrong but Kumble's monster haul in 2003-04 series in Australia was the single most successful series for a visiting spinner in Australia since...WWII ? I dont believe any offspinner has been the wrecker-in-chief in Australia.

Today is the day for ashwin, there is some turn for spinners now and if he cant get atleast 2 wkts in this innings we are not going to win this match . Then He will be considered only a spintrack bully forever. Even duminy got wkt of kohli here.

A good leg spinner is worth his weight in gold as they are alike to a fast bowler who has real pace and is not dependent on conditions to get wickets, modern day captains are not willing to pick up leg spinners as they feel an offie can keep it more tight and can be used as a defensive option, Rahul Sharma should be persisted with a bit more, I hear Malolan has some promise too, even Chawla is a talented , versatile cricketer, can bat pretty well and has developed a good fast one and with a bit of push and support could be the leg spinner for us.

Ashwin has issues with his action. He cannot best batsmen with variation of pace neither spins big. He needs more pivot.
I agree he has this jump where he delays his action but then he doesn't pivot and as he is tall he seems to get more bounce, but with more pivot he will get more pace and spin of the track.

Unless you are Venkatapathy Raju, i've never ever heard of a spinner 'requiring more pace' to their deliveries.
