This is what Ashwin did. Holding runs at one end job - 36-5-83-0 (econ rate 2.3) Is that reasonable? Would Ojha have been as miserly against maniac hitting batsmen like ABDV and Duminy, and taken wickets? Why cant we bring Ojha for Durban? Or does Durban have zero assistance for spinners?

Holding is not enough from your #1 spinner on a 5th day wicket with a big target generating pressure. He has to strike. Ashwin had a bad game. Let's hope he learns and gets better. and he bowled ZERO balls to 'maniac hitting batsman' Duminy.

That's not a bad effort at all but he is one of our main bowlers and if he goes wicketless, we will struggle to get sides out often. Either he needs to step up drastically or have to find other options.

Jadeja can hold one end up AND take wickets because he's simply better. He was the number 1 ODI bowler and highest wicket taker for a reason. Yadav takes wickets too, which is better than holding one end up. Give me 4 bowlers to take 10 wickets in an innings, thats all we need. No need for ashwin

If you can't take wickets.. create pressure, dry up runs, atleast look threatening and make the batsman even more circumspect and bowlers at other end will get wickets. Ashwin did none of it. To be honest even Suresh Raina would have been more useful. This gentle floating deliveries will struggle to dismsis tstosbe in South Africa.

Swann herath and harbhajan singh have played key roles in winning test matches in durban for their teams, I think the former two took 10 wickets in their matches. So yes Ashwin has to take wickets their if India is expecting to win.

Fact of matter is India needs 5 bowlers not 4 if they entertain any thoughts of dismissing top side like SA batting, yes this bowling can make merry with Pak,WI,NZ,BNG but not with top sides even on 5th day pitch with 90 overs to get 8 wickets .

Taking wickets, you do not need a 5th bowler.

As a posted earlier, this was only 8th instance when our spinners didn't take any wickets and not a surprise that we haven't won any of those. Ashwin is invloved in two of those matches. One at Sydney which we lost and this one. This is first time that our spinners bowled twice in a match and still couldn't pick a wicket.
