Tremendous effort !

If the other pacers had got a couple of more wickets, it would have been handy.

A  27 run lead for SA can be crucial on this pitch given our middle order.

Siraj has to learn to pick a couple even on his bad days. He is probably injured and trying his best to make a contribution already but these low scoring affairs are unforgiving.

Shardul hits Jansen again on the chest with a snorter

What aggression !

Shardul used to bowl 135+ and effort deliveries in early 140's when he was fitter. But now he has kind of settled into this bowling AR role who chips in with wickets and scores some crucial runs down the order. Wish he gets fitter and back to bowling 135.

No Asian pacer has taken 100+ test wickets averaging less than 26, while bowling 130 kph.

All the low average Asian pacers, with 100+ test wickets, have had the abity to crank it up to 145 kph when needed.  (  This is because we are of shorter height on an average and play 60% of our matches on slow and low surfaces )

Some people just look at a few matches played on fast surfaces and form opinions.

And it is exactly this mindset which has resulted in us not producing a single sub-26 averaging test pacer with 100+ wickets before Bumrah.

Even in World Cricket, 90% of the sub-26 averaging pacers with 100+ wickets have had the ability to hit top speeds of 145 kph or higher.

Thankfully, Kohli understands test match bowling better than some of his die hard fans, and uses 130 kph pacers only as all-rounders.

Bro, Shardul was bowling 135 k to 140 k even earlier this year in Australia and looked fitter.

But seems to have put on weight after that.

Hope he works hard on his fitness ... because he can serve us really well as an allrounder.

For those who remember, when Shardul was leading Mumbai's attack and nowhere on national selection radar, he used to clock 140 plus often on domestic speed guns.

Still, have no doubt that his bowling, much like Ishant, is going to shine only and only when he's part of a bowling group like the current one.

he was clocking 140 even on the Nzl tour in whiteball games. He has it in him clearly.

@express bowling your point about bouncers is a correct one but i felt Bumrah overdid it to the tailenders. This pitch isn't an English or subcontinental one where you only keep bowling driving length or at the stumps but Jansen had the better of their exchange for me.

Yes, I feel that the best way to use bouncers on a bouncy and reasonably helpful pitch is to use 1 or 2 almost every over.  Not less and not more.

But it must be said that Jansen was a bit lucky too.

Wasim etc bowled 130kph most of his career so thats plain false

This is a more helpful era for pace bowlers though, even bhuvi and thakur average 27 and 19

Great to see posters quoting speeds and then Shardul with his 130kph trundling silently laughing at them.

130 Kph is more than enough  for test cricket if you have proper control and can move the ball.

And that is effective when you have it in variety not a monotonous attack having all hovering in 130s

Setup is as essential as bowling good lines with control

Bumrah played his part too, dismissing either is foolish

An Indian pacer picking a 7-er in an innings is a rare event in Indian cricket. Only the 11th instance in our cricket history. Kapil (5), Amar Singh, Srinath, Irfan, Zaheer and Ishant once each and now Lord Thakur.

We called him fat, unfit, trundler, here is his answer through his performance :isalute:

its also better than best hauls of Akram,Waqar,Cummins etc :giggle:
