I remember one interviewer saying he performs only when the chips are down, or when India desperately needs him.

Alrounders did fine. It's the batsmen who failed. Jaiswal, Pant, rahul, jurel failed and gill injured. Can't win with ten players. Sundar was the top scorer in the test from both sides. Axar did score too. Jaddu had some runs too. 

 

In second innings Rahul, jaiswal, pant combined scored 3 runs and you are blaming alrounders. These 3 alrounders combined scored 75 runs. Three main batsmen just needed to score 30 instead of 3.

Yes but the reason why team's have historically picked batsman over bits and pieces allrounders is that the batsmen will do very well on their days even if the top 3/4 don't perform. Instead of feeling disappointed you are satisfied with Sundar axar's contributions while you would have been fuming if it were proper batsmen.  Kolkata 2001 and Adelaide 2003 would have been respectable defeats if it were allrounders at 6. Picking 3 allrounders is in no way justified especially on a bowler friendly pitch.

Not eligible to play for India, too fast ...we need steady good line and length bowlers ...and bowlers who have a good record in domestic cricket...:-) that they might loose you international games is not important, they were the best selected based on performance....I heard that when Vensarker used to select he selected based on who he thought will be best to win for India

With Umran mostly hovering at 145k max... It looks like there is no active Express pacer in the country anymore.

 

Zero clue where that RCB mystery express pacer vanished too

I think Umran played just 1 match in IPL 24 and was mostly 143 to 149 k

Watched a bit of replay and Sen was bowling 145-146. But problem with Sen is he can be all over the place. Needs to tighten his line and pick up lot of wickets, if he wants to get back in the reckoning. Arshad at the other end picked up 4 wickets and he was around 137-138. Quite nippy.
