I know its his first match.. I dont want to be too harsh on him. but to me he looks more like a T20 bowler than a test bowler.. Rat made a gamble in selecting him.. But its a poor one.. If this is what he is going to offer, we might aswell select Ashwin or Raina, who can bat better and bowl the same filth.. would like to know ICF'ers opinion about him.. shoot away :)

They took a gamble, ok to do that occasionally. Now that it didn't work out, get Ashwin or another pacer for Gabba. Pacer better since Gabba wont support spinner anyway. Ashwin would bowl stupid line and length anyway. Go with Shami, Aaron, Ishant, Umesh and spin of M.Vijay and R.Sharma for pacy Brisbane pitch.

Last three overseas test Ashwin has 3 wickets and in two of those three tests he had zero wickets.We all know what a great Match winner Jadeja is so no need to reiterate his splendid performances. expecting a debutant spinner to have impact on this road on first day is bit too much.

I am satisfied with K. Sharma debut. Looked better then Ashwin & Jadeja combined performance in the last year overseas. Hoping his nerves are settled and he bowls better from now on.

Leggies are preferred options in Australia. So Kohli ran away with the idea. He is not quality. But Ashwin is no more effective either. This is day 1 pitch. He will still have some say in the 2nd innings. If you look back majority of the success came from leggies in Australia in the last decade or so. Kumble is the best overseas spinner. Even Upul Chandana had his moments. He is no Kumble. so he must turn it big and mix it with sliders and googlies . He is not proficient in any of them. That is a concern though.

Havent seen him play much but from what I have read seems to prefer the flatter trajectories - now they have their utility on some occasions but to be a regular in the side with this will be difficult.

not only does he prefer flatter trajectories, but he has control issues stemming from a chaotic action. Lot's of balls where he gets the line length wrong. Just full tosses too often, in fact. Not much of a tuner either. Doesn't even get the ball to skid through like some leggies who bowl .

Was never sold tow him because he doesn't spin the ball(which is thew stock ball for a leggie) and he doesn't have a wrong one.I hope he does well in the next innings

In Australia...You do need quickish legspinners or a quickish delivery....Warne's Flipper was his weapon,Mcgill was kind of Quickish,Kumble did reasonably well and even Afridi did well there in ODI's. Problem with Karn is he has no variations...On paper it is a good move by the team mgmnt but Karn is still not ready

He sprints through the action...shd stop jump and use the body to get pace. Using shoulders is not good for spinners. T20 IPL material, for Test he looks sorry.

I would reserve my opinion on Karn Sharma. Before this test match I was not that impressed with him. Because he did not seem to have good sidespin or an effective flipper. Today's performance is a lot because of nerves ... so not really a proper reflection of his ability. He actually spun the ball more than he did in India. Not many googlies or flippers though. His control was bad today but may improve after his nerves settle down. His type of bowler , without much flights, should have been quicker in the air too and should have had a killer flipper/ slider.

Looks more of a limited overs bowler. Very surprising he debuted in first match itself. If someone predicted that even 1 month ago it would have been laughed off.

Even Ashwin and Jaddu havent played 50 Tests.Spinner take time to adapt overseas.They have to chose one and stick with him rather than chopping and changing.Personally that would me Ashwin for me with 4 pacers as he can bat.Spinner shouldnt be a part of bowler attack overseas imo. Anyway,now that they've selected Karn,he deserves a rope.atleast this entire series.
