Even if he flukes his way to some double tons against mighty Ireland and UAE, cometh knock out and we'll be searching for him. Better bring in Rayudu now than later. He will get some match practice and confidence. Also he can be utilized as a hitter lower down the order and did well against Starc, Hazlewood, Johnson etc in the warm up game. Should have never been dropped in the first place.

Both Rohit and Dhawan are sort of guys that will score big ( and end up with a very good SR ) once they make >50 You cannot expect Dhawan to do it every match - We need Rohit and dare I say, he is way more destructive than Dhawan

zen Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Let's us think through this: 1) Dhawan - got some good knocks under his belt and still it appears as if he could peak 2) Rohit - yet to get a good score but now with relatively easier games ahead, he could get in to the stride too 3) Kohli - has a 100 under his belt, but like Dhawan has to potential to peak 4) Rahane - looks settled at #4 5) Raina - appears to be getting in to a nice hitting form 6) Dhoni - Dhoni (need I say more) To play Rayudu, a) He would have to either open or bat at #4. Now why would you want to disturb Rahane at 4. In terms of getting 80+ scores, chances of Rohit coming good in the rest of the tourney > Rayudu coming good at the opening position b) This leaves the #7 position up for grabs. If Ind decides to go in with 7 batsmen, Rayudu has a chance. However, it would seriously impact the bowling combination which looks settled at 3 pacers + 2 spinners. Also the 3+2 combination is suitable since Ind could probably play QF, SF and F in Australia (SCG and MCG) So at the moment, the best way for Rayudu to get in the 11 in this WC is if he starts practicing spin bowling. If he can bowl 8-9 overs on consistent basis, he could be an option. For swinging conditions in NZ, Binny is an option too At this point, emotional threads on dropping x or y, may not mean much :icflove:
