Of course - ideally - the yorker would be the perfect ball to bowl but it drives me mad when commentators and fans criticise the opposition for not bowling enough - yorkers aren't easy. A large majority of yorkers end up being low full tosses / full length deliveries that get smashed away and hence it's a high risk ball. Also, with the batsman constantly moving around in their crease, it is very hard - nay, almost impossible, to consistently bowl yorkers. Ergo a statement such as "all he had to do was bowl yorkers", or "why didn't he bowl enough yorkers??" is ignorant.

Its still better than bowling slower balls or other varieties
sage Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 If you observe the pitchmap, you can often see a lot of balls around the yorker area. The thing is, the margins are so fine and unless you're an in-form Malinga or Iqbal it is very hard for even the best to master it. That doesn't even include how the batsman can just take a step back, or forward, and change the length of your ball.

veer Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Problem is that our bowling plan is very well known.. Ball fast and short pitched and well directed. We dont bother with yorkers or good lengths much... Ozzies will definitely be ready about it. Lets see whose game plans work out better.

He plays like as though there's a computer program that calculates ball velocity/trajectory/angular momentum etc and determines the correct shot to be played. This is why everything about his batting looks awkward, except the part where the ball meets the bat at its centre. Its like watching one of those robots that an MIT geek would design to catch a ball thrown up in the air. The motion of the robotic arm looks very weird, but it almost always catches the ball.
